Kelly Doran formally enters DFL Senate Primary Race
It will be an uphill battle for him with Klobochar and Wetterling. Here is his web site.

"Doran to formally announce Senate campaign

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal

May 25, 2005

Real estate developer Kelly Doran will formally kick off his candidacy for U.S. Senate on June 5, he said Tuesday.

Doran, who calls himself a lifelong Democrat, will run in the 2006 election for the Minnesota seat now held by Sen. Mark Dayton, who has announced that he will not seek re-election. Doran, 47, first announced his plans to run for the office May 17.

Doran, a principal at Robert Muir Co. in Edina, will likely compete against Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobachar and child-safety advocate Petty Wetterling for the DFL endorsement.

"Obviously, we don't have the name recognition of some of the other candidates, but I think at the end of the day we'll be able to drive an issues-orientated campaign and the people can decide who they think is best qualified to serve them in Washington," Doran said in a phone interview with The Business Journal last week."

1. I heard an interview with Doran Sunday morning on AM1500..
He was pretty impressive. Annette Meeks asked him why, since he's been successful, he would want to be a democrat. God, I hate that woman!

He answered that he was from a working class background, and he didn't have to abandon the principles he grew up with just because he had made some money.

Didn't hear the whole interview, but I liked what I heard. I'm still backing Patty Wetterling, but I'm looking forward to hearing more from Doran.

2. Isn't AM 1500...
A right wing station? If he is going on that stuff he is reaching for the whole 'republican-lite' thinkng. That is the last thing we need. At the point I would listen to what he has to say, but I am still a Patty backer.

8. I'm reserving judgment
I intend to support Klobuchar, but I'm intrigued at having a successful businessman identify himself as a DFLer (I'm going to take him at face value on that). If this guys is sincere he could do some constructive work at showing that personal success and progressive values are not mutually exclusive, and that sane moderates who maybe would've been republicans 10 years ago can find a home within the DFL (at this point, I'm happy to ally with anyone who wants to help fight the Neocons and Theocrats).
