I'm powerless to do anything, but DAMN it is annoying

4. Actually - we are one of the least crime effected neighborhoods in town.

Not to say we don't have our own criminals, but we watch out for each other.

PS: I had the chance to see Spalding Grey three times live, (twice in the front row) and one other time in an interview session where I got to ask him about "True Stories"

It warms me to see his face. I related to his remembering the pain of Vietnam and sitting in front of the non-cable TV night after night, it struck a chord with me.

I have lots of little children in my neighborhood, I'd be crushed if they accidentally fell afoul of any such clever ploy.

8. I have a simple solution:

You'll need a "night" sign, and a "day" sign. The day sign will have no habenero oil on it, and will serve as the bait. After sundown, swap signs with your oily "night" sign. Then laugh your ass off when it disappears at night! If they don't take it the first night, then swap signs again in the morning.

I think there may be a group that swings through the few working class neighborhoods in town during the day, and tears down signs...as we are, by definition, at work.

Because every time I drive through Ann Arbor, I feel like I've gone to heaven! The Kerry signs, and the anti-War signs are EVERYWHERE. It's refreshing. Set up a webcam in your window and film them, if they are stealing your signs during the day. The cameras are cheap nowdays.

I drove through an area that had only Kerry-Edwards signs for a ten block stretch. But I did see ONE that said "We Believe in Traditional Marriage". I feel sure they're pro-Bush, but I can't assume it.

11. I had the good fortune of spending one election eve in Ann Arbor years ago

I was driving through Ypsi and observed guys in a pickup truck pulling up signs from public land near a polling station.

They were pulling up the Dem signs, but there wasn't much I could do since no signs were allowed on public property (if I understand the law correctly).

Botttom line: I bet this is something that is a bit of a tradition for the AA area.

You should set up a video camera or two and capture these guys.

I believe it's a felony.

3. Get some alizarin crimson oil paint

from your local art store. That stuff takes forever to dry and is impossible to get out of clothes, auto upholstery, etc. paint it on the back of your sign or on the post.
