Ms. Sharon Marie Renier (MI)
Current Office: Challenger
Office Seeking: U.S. Representative
District Seeking: 7
Party: Democrat

2004 Congressional National Political Awareness Test

Please Note

The National Political Awareness Test (NPAT) asks candidates which items they will support if elected. It does not ask them to indicate which items they will oppose. Through extensive research of public polling data, we discovered that voters are more concerned with what candidates would support when elected to office, not what they oppose. If a candidate does not select a response to any part or all of any question, it does not necessarily indicate that the candidate is opposed to that particular item.

Project Vote Smart does not permit the use of its name or programs in any negative campaign activity, including advertising, debates, and speeches.

3. I don't see why not being anti-gun is a problem...
between a quarter and a third of Dems and indies own guns, and 50% of gun owners are NOT repubs. The ban-more-guns zealots are a major reason why Dems lost the Senate, the House, and two Presidencies in the last decade.

Dems and the Gun Issue - Now What?

4. Concealed guns make no sense to me, unless you're looking for a gunfight.

6. If you're talking about people who have had a background check
and are knowledgeable about self-defense law, I don't see a problem. My father had a "save" via a handgun back in the early 1970's, when I was a young child, with no shots fired.

My wife went through the process to qualify for a carry license in Florida, and I hold an NC carry license. Neither of us carries often, but there are times that it is nice to have the option without committing a felony. We are certainly not looking for a confrontation, and I don't expect to ever have to use it, but I do support giving responsible people the option.

FWIW, getting a license here in NC involves a thorough Federal and state background check, an FBI fingerprint check, a mental health records check, training in NC self-defense law, and the applicant must demonstrate both knowledge of the law and proficiency with a handgun. It takes considerable time and a nontrivial amount of money to apply (which is done through your local law enforcement agency).

7. I think we lost those elections because of some very stupid voters
Is there any other way to describe a George W. Bush voter than as a complete idiot? A pro second amendment complete idiot? The gun issue is NO excuse for voting for George W. Bush.
