What do Michigan DUers think about Gov. Grenholm?
I'm curious about her. I've seen her on tv several times, speaking about some various issues and I think she's very intelligent. As we've had only 2 senators become president, I'm wondering why Ms. Grenholm doesn't consider running?

Pls tell me what you think of her as a politician and do you think she would make a good president? Thx.

2. She was born in Canada so she is not eligible to run for President.
She was left quite a mess by the Engler administration and doing the best she can, with what she has to work with. Until the 2006 election, both legislative branches were GOP controlled and that limited her ability to enact her agenda.

She is term-limited out in 2010.

3. I love our gov!
I think she'd make a good president, but she can't run. Maybe she'll run for the Senate someday (when Carl retires?). She'd make a good AG (she was a former AG here in Michigan) or be good in some other role on someone's cabinet. I've had the good fortune to have met her several times and she's really an amazing woman -- intelligent, warm, caring, etc. Our Michigan bloggers' caucus was invited to her residence for coffee a few months ago -- she really "gets" the power of the Toobz.

4. She's fabulous
I was extremely honored to meet her at a campaign rally last fall and I was struck first by her intelligence - she is one smart lady. And second, she is incredibly real and down to earth.

That said, I find it despicable that the Republican held legislature has let her twist in the wind with regard to balancing the budget.

It'd be great if she would run for president, but alas, as the other posters have noted, she is a native of Canada. Hopefully she will find a place in a Democratic administration, though.

6. I interviewed her for my community television show on 4/13

Hopefully by the middle of next week I'll be able to post the interview I did with her on 4/13. I think she's great. She is open and honest and actually answers the questions put to her. Instead of operating from an ideological anchor, which is sinking the Republicans, the governor listens, adjusts and moves forward, always with optimism. She's definitely a glass-half-full kind of woman. She has been criticized for being a Pollyanna, but I think her optimism is tempered with a good dose of reality, something we need more of from our leaders today.

7. We love our Gov. The only criticism I have:

Sometimes I think she does rope-a-dope too much, and takes way too many punches before hitting back. Nolan finley and his usual Sunday jabs at her on Flashpoint are a prime example. Just once, I want Devin to have Jenny on and let her open a can of whoopass on that dweeb.

Her thoughtfulness is so admirable. I just wish that she would drop the gloves and hit back sooner than later.

8. We think her name is Granholm....:-)
She's had a really tough row to hoe with an obstructionist legislature and the mess Engler left the state in. I'm not happy with the current moratorium on arts funding but I hope it's just a ploy to force the GOP into action.

9. I think she's doing great, talk about priorities, calls the GOPs bluffs
should do more town hall meetings but the GOP is dragging their feet on purpose because they think the budget "crisis" will blow up in Granholm's face and they will have an embarrassment of riches in the next election. Those idiots are about to get their asses handed to them.

10. She's stuck with a mess that the repub-led legislature has no intention of resolving
They made it worse by eliminating the single business tax without making any kind of provision for how to replace the money in the state budget. Everything that she has proposed gets shot down.

I will give her this-in her cuts, she's hitting the conservative favorites hard-state police and corrections, among other things. DOC will be closing SE Michigan Penitentiary, i.e. Jackson State prison, an outdated, but big prison. There will have to end up being some kind of sentencing reform as far as some drug crimes go-locking people up for 20 years for possessing a few rocks of crack is not exactly cost effective for anyone.

11. Thanks for all your replies.
I didn't know she is Canadian born. That's a damn shame - she's a very intelligent woman and would make a great leader of this country.

1gobluedem - sorry about the misspelling. Thx for the correction - I should have looked it up first.

12. John Engler left her a huge mess.
And it will take many, many years to clean up.

Many, many years.
