2. Better produce than most
The DeMoulas in Somerville is the best supermarket I've seen in town-- quality, selection, price, everything.

I have a Star Market within walking distance. I treat it like a big convenience store-- run out for a pint of cream when I need it-- because that's how high the prices are. And they have a distressing tendency to claim that things they've advertised on sale aren't really. I wish I lived in walking distance of the Market Basket instead.

3. I hate Market Basket!!!!! 1/2 of all products are store brand!
I go out of town to shop because MB has a monopoly in our town (3 of them). The produce at our stores stink and you have to look for 5 minutes to find a brand name because half of the isle is MB products. While I like having the option of a no name-they go overboard. Their bakery is good though.

I also got sick of bring back moldy cheese!

4. I've never seen one
where in Mass are they?

I have to shop at the Stop & Shop- it's the only thing near me. I don't particularly like it. I miss Safeway from Denver.

5. I hate to say it but....
I tried to return rancid stinking pork to them and they wouldn't take it back without a receipt. I guess they thought I swiped it. Who keeps their receipt when they buy groceries? When I opened it up the next day man it stunk. I don't trust their meats since then.

6. Market Basket: Their meat and produce sucks
I buy stuff like paper towels and toilet paper there if they're on sale. The MB in SOmerville is a dirty store.

I shop at most of the local chains: Shaw's, Stop & Shop, Foodmaster, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's. I watch sales, because mainstream grocery stores like Shaw's and Stop & Shop are often more expensive than Whole Foods. Whole Foods has great produce and excellent meats.

Locally, I buy my fish at Courthouse Fish Market, which has better deals and quality than mainstream markets. I also shop Farmers Markets for produce when they're in season.
