DSM Boston event 7/31: Rep. Frank, John Bonifaz, & State Rep. Gloria Fox
Forum: The Downing Street Memos

Featuring: Congressman Barney Frank, John Bonifaz, & State Rep. Gloria Fox

Arlington Street Church, July 31, 6:30 pm

The DSMs -- recently leaked to the British media -- demonstrate that, one-year before the Iraq invasion, the Bush Administration knew that the evidence for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was weak and that IRAQ POSED NO REAL THREAT. Nevertheless, the Bush Administration was already committed to war and intended to "FIX INTELLIGENCE AROUND THE POLICY".

Mr. Frank is a champion of progressive ideas in Congress, and an outspoken critic of the Bush Administration. He was among the first signers of Congressman John Conyer's petition calling on the President to be forthcoming about the information contained in the Downing Street Memos.

Mr. Bonifaz is a constitutional lawyer. In 2003 he challenged President George W. Bush's authority to wage war against Iraq in a federal lawsuit. Mr. Bonifaz is the author of the book "Warrior King: The Case for Impeaching George W. Bush." He is co-founder of a national campaign, AfterDowningStreet.org, calling for a full congressional investigation into whether the President has committed impeachable offenses in connection with the Iraq war.

Ms. Fox has been a State Representative for twenty years. She is a staunch supporter of justice, equality and public safety, as well as social, environmental, and economic justice. Ms. Fox will share her views on how the illegal Iraq War has harmed Boston and other cities because of the disproportionate impact of budget cuts on inner cities.

presented by Brookline PeaceWorks! co-sponsored by Boston Mobilization, Progressive Democrats of America, Pax Christi, Newton Dialogues on Peace and War and others

1. Sponsor Symbolman to film this event - send the Lear Jet and I'm there
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 10:25 AM by paineinthearse
Symbolman filmed Rep. Conyer's Detroit event last weekend. Bottom line - "send the Lear Jet and I'm there". Here are his thoughts on doing the same in Boston:

two things - one, my tripod head was SMASHED by United this trip - High Tech Steel in a custom padded case by the manufacturer so it will be hard for them to deny the claim, but I have to purchase another, then bring them the receipt so they can reimburse me "in a few weeks.." (Translation: probably a month or more

The other thing is that I was only able to make it to Detroit on the basis of some good folks here on the DU donating towards my "Rove's War" DVD coming out in early August to cover my travel costs as donations is all Takebackthemedia.com runs on - we don't want to sell out to advertisers en masse..

Also I have about two films to edit all by my lonesome and the cheese don't cut itself as we all know, someone has to do it, and that would be me

Much as I love listening to, meeting and admire these folks in Boston I don't see any way of doing it - if I had the money, time, and indestructible equipment it would be a sublime pleasure to help move this issue and force the media to cover it..

Sometimes when the little guys keep showing up, they decide to compete and squish him - I won't be squished, but I sure would love to have them try it and inadvertantly cover this story

Thanks for the invite - send the Lear Jet and I'm there

Keep hammering, there has to be a nail around here somewhere, eh?

Keep up the good work,

thanks

symbolman

2. composing a post for lack of media coverage - did anyone else attend?
As I expected, there was no corporate media presence.

I have corresponded with the Globe ombudsman and am writing a piece for the MEDIA forum that will display how corporate-owned media views "anti-war" forums (their words).

Please PM if you attended or want a look at the draft.
