Former Brockton mayoral candidate Jass Stewart seeking public office again

BROCKTON —

Jass Stewart says he will decide whether to make his third bid for mayor or his first bid for councilor-at-large by July 28.

The former mayoral candidate has taken out nomination papers, which are due on that date, for both positions.

“I can tell you where my heart is, but I can then step back and say where the most practical option is for me at the moment,” Stewart, who ran hotly contested races against Mayor James E. Harrington in 2007 and 2005, said Monday.

Stewart said he is gathering signatures for both mayor and councilor-at-large, but he will campaign for one position. He said he is exploring public office again because there has been “little to no progress” on city issues since his last political run.

After two, hard-pressed mayoral campaigns, Stewart said he limited his public involvement to focus on his family, campaign for Barack Obama and continue his work as a board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton. He also founded My Enterprises, a summer program to help Brockton youth use their creativity to become entrepreneurs.
