U.S. Supreme Court rejects Hoffman case
The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to delay a decision by Maine's top court that independent Herbert Hoffman should not be listed on the ballot Nov. 4 as a candidate for U.S. Senate.

John Branson, a Portland lawyer who represents Hoffman, said today the application for a delay was denied Wednesday by Justice David Souter, who has jurisdiction over the federal court district that includes Maine.

Hoffman won't be on the ballot.
