Dennis Moore, you're on notice.
Unfortunately for Stephen Colbert fans in Wyandotte County, Kansas' "Fightin' Third" Congressional District will probably not be profiled anytime soon on the popular Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report."

U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore (D - 3rd District) told the Kansas City Kansan this week that his office had been contacted by Colbert's staff, but that he would probably not take part in an interview on the show.

Colbert, a comedian who parodies conservative-leaning talk show hosts like Bill O'Reilly on his late-night show, interviews members of the House of Representatives in a 435-part series he calls "Better Know a District." In addition to an interview with the legislator - or, in some cases, the legislator's opponent in an election - Colbert also takes a humorous look at the district itself, including famous people from that district and products made there. He refers to each congressional district as "the Fightin' (district number)."

It's that interview segment that worries Moore.

10. I've been saying exactly this for a couple of years now.
The problem is that the Democratic Party would NEVER support such a candidate, and it would not be possible to raise enough money to mount an effective campaign against him. All we can hope for is that Dennis will decide to retire or move on, perhaps to the Senate, and that whoever his hand-picked successor is will actually be a real Democrat.

But Dennis isn't going to run for the Senate unless he feels extremely certain he can win, and there's some one in the wings that he and Larry Gates (the Kansas State Democratic Party Chair)feel equally confident can win Dennis's House seat.

Next Saturday Dennis will be at the Wyandotte County Democratic Party's Third Saturday breakfast at the Woodlands. Here's a link to information about it: http://www.ksdp.org/node/3123. Dennis needs to be confronted about a lot of things, and last month here in Johnson County he got away with saying a lot of crap about why we need to stay in Iraq, including the old lie that everyone thought Iraq had WMD's.

That just blew me away. I can't even imagine. I'd have to spit beer in his face.

12. Yeah. I absolutely
cannot understand the "Oh, but he'd be perfect to have a beer with" crap. He's a smirking asshole. Oh, wait. Assholes are functional things.

13. I think the reason they want to drink beer with him is because
if you listen to him sober Bush doesn't make any sense. Besides, with enough alcohol you'd both be slurring and mispronouncing things together.

:P

15. In all fairness, every time I hear Bush's voice I need a drink.
That doesn't mean I want him with me while I drink it. I want to be able to keep it down.

14. Which reminds me, I saw Journeys with George against last night and W was drinking Buckler
Buckler is a "non-alcoholic" beverage made by Heinkein and has an alcohol content of less than <.05

But, with up to 0.5% alcohol, "non-alcoholic" drinks still have some alcohol. Under Illinois law, only "alcohol free" drinks are totally 0%. "Low alcohol" drinks contain between 0.5% and 2.5% alcohol, which almost all light" (lower calorie) beers exceed. Budweiser, by comparison, has 4.7% alcohol.

Since "non-alcoholic" drinks do contain alcohol, it's conceivable that someone who'd had a few could register a positive result on a breathalyzer test. I'm told, for example, that a dose of cough medicine can. Under the state's "zero tolerance" laws, any positive breath test can cause problems for a minor operating a vehicle.

***
Violating the 0.08% blood-alcohol under Illinois law would be hard--a 150-pound person would apparently have to drink a whole case of non-alcoholic brew (24 bottles) in one hour to do that. But it wouldn't necessarily take a lot, especially with a smaller person, to produce something more than zero.

President Bush drinks an occasional O'Doul's. Back during prohibition, when only 0.5% "beer" was legal, breweries switched to "non-alcoholic" drinks, although consumption steadily dropped until repeal. Anheuser-Busch made Bevo, which Professor Harold Hill mentions as a possible cause of trouble in River City. Today, Bevo survives as the name of the University of Texas longhorn mascot.

I wonder how many of these things that Bush drinks? Oh to have access to the White House liquor bill!
