2. ooh ooh im right!
Candidate Mike Blouin, a pro-life Catholic, argued that Iowa's law is a model for the rest of the nation and should be kept in place

Blouin declined to answer directly whether he opposed embryonic stem cell research.

"I think we ought to tread very lightly," he said

Bah!

I can't believe I even toyed with the idea of supporting him. What part of the Democratic platform DOES he support?

6. Can someone explain to me how Blouin is a Democrat?
He sure sounds like a middle of the road Republican.

8. Endorsements
This leads me to ask this question. Why does 32 out of 49 representatives and 18 out of 25 senators endorse Blouin for Governor? These are people we put there. Should we be rethinking their intent? Maybe you should go to your state representative or senator and ask them why they endorse Blouin.

Come on quit piling on. I don't like it when the republicans use negative tactics and I sure would like to expect more out of Democrats against their own. But then reading through several posts on DU on other forums it is a constant piling on of our own.

I have no more to say on this subject. Come next election I will support the democratic candidate, no matter who it is. If I felt like you all, I couldn't say that.

10. Good Question
I think the endorsements probably come from the "electable" above all else theory of thought, and in a state-wide race perhaps a moderate's moderate is the way to go...I don't know. I think at one time Blouin did appear to be the most electable, but as his social values come out more and more I don't see him as carrying the progressive vote.

I would like to think that we could field someone who would better represent my views (those that elect), as that is what they are put in office to do.

I will continue to discuss our candidates in this open forum, and I hope everyone else does the same. If by 'piling on' you mean letting my opinion be known, and discussing our candidates, 'piling on' is what I will do. I thought that is why we are here?

I have a lot more to say on the subject, and I probably will. I hope that isn't an offense to you.

11. I think the Legislative Democrats are following the Governor's lead
I mean, yeah he didn't endorse, but he is traveling about promoting the already passed and signed into law Values Fund...why now?

When the sitting Governor gives not so subtle hints that he's supporting one candidate I think the other elected officials may fall in line (a little too quickly for my liking, but I'm not supporting Blouin so you all can see the chip on my shoulder :P).

So far all I've seen is constructive conversation by the posters in this forum, we've all been honest about who we support (or if we're still on the fence) and have brought up legitimate questions about the race.

We've got seven months to go and we're all still acting like grown-ups.....Now, about the First District race.....

12. I think he's trying to have it both ways.
Playing to the more progressive ideas posed in counties like Lee and Johnson and turing around to show he's socially conservative enough to represent places like Lyon and Almakee.

I don't know how that plays in a Democratic Primary and would be surprised that it would trick anyone in King's congressional district. I wasn't around in the 70's was anyone here represented by Blouin?

Will be interesting to see how it pans out for him.

5. Just curious - what about the regressive candidates?
I assume that opposition to stem cell research is the price of admission for them?
