Nussle to open C.R.-based consulting firm
Published: 01/08/2007 4:42 PM
By: James Q. Lynch - The Gazette

DES MOINES, IA - Former 1st District Rep. Jim Nussle, a Manchester Republican, announced today he is opening a Cedar Rapids-based consulting firm, Navigating Strategies, L.L.C., that will combine his years of experience in the public and private sectors.

Together with long-time associate and former chief of staff, Steve Greiner, originally from Independence, the firm will provide a partnership and expertise in the areas of business, government, politics, communications, and public policy.

``This is a really exciting time,'' Nussle said. ``I have been so honored to have had the opportunity to serve Iowans in the public sector. This venture gives me an opportunity to continue helping Iowans from the private sector angle."

(snip)

In addition to headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Navigating Strategies will have an office in the Washington, D.C., area

1. Nussle staying in Iowa
Is he running for Senate in 2008 against Harkin or is he going to run in 2010 when Grassley retires?

3. No doubt whichever it is we are not done with this slime yet
Keep that whisper campaign alive.
I was under the impression that wifey #2 wasn't much in love with Iowa? Maybe she'll run things in D.C.?

4. In the paper (I'm not an online subscriber) there was also a line
that noted that this was not a "lobbying firm" since Nussle was barred from lobbying as a former congressman. Then it notes:
" the firm will help entreperneurs and investors navigate their way through the confusing intersection of government, business, the economy, public affairs and public policy." But no lobbying <<wink....wink>>

6. He can't lobby for the next year (congress rules)
but he can 'consult' for a year and then 'lobby' starting January 2008.

I'm sure he can suck some cash out of republican Presidential wannabes (enough to pay the bills in Manchester...which is where he's lived for the last 20 years).

7. No lobbying...
It sounds like he will be teaching people how to lobby instead of doing the lobbying himself. Real nice.

I hope he stays busy with this, I don't want to deal with him in 2008 or 2010.

5. Will he still get to be a volunteer fireman????

I'd say he's hoping to snare one of the Presidential campaigns for 2008 (do their Iowa work and bank alot of $$$$). Then he'll either challenge Harking in 2008 or Braley x( (maybe??).

Of course, Nussle might find that lots of $$$ with no responsibility of reporting might be plenty enjoyable (Just ask Steve Grubbs over a Victory Enterprises - he's lost more races than he's won but I'm sure he's rolling in the dough!)

Could be that Nussle is just laying low and waiting for a cabinet position or undersecretary spot from President XXXX in 2009

Weirder things have happened (especially in the last six years!!)

My question is.....Is Mrs. Nussle #2 content to stay in Manchester, Iowa for the rest of her married life? Little bit different night-life than D.C. isn't it??? :yoiks:

On edit:

Kinda weird, I went to look up Nussle corporation on the SOS site and it hasn't been registered yet.

http://www.sos.state.ia.us/corp/corp_search.asp?Corp=Navigating+Strategies&submittedcorp=1&cboRows=10

Now why would he put out a press release about an orgianization that hasn't been incorporated yet, doesn't have it's website up yet, doesn't have a phone # or address or anything yet....all on the day that Tom Vilsack steps down in preparation for Chet Culver to become our next Governor.....naaaahhhh, I need to put on my
:tinfoilhat:

8. Those who can't win lobby
and those who can't lobby teach lobbying?
I know there is a woody allen line in there somewhere. Why can't this snake just crawl away and live under his rock?

9. He's a GOP lawyer. Thought he'd be seeking a partnership with
Dewey, Cheatham and Howe.
