***LIST COMPANIES TO AVOID.... it starts NOW***
We need an organized list of all vendors that need to be avoided (AND CONTACTED)...

It worked with Sinclair... It will work in Indiana too. Especially, with the smaller local companies. Contact the companies and they will do the work for us, calling the radio station and such, pulling their $$$… Bling Bling! I do the marketing for a small company, believe me IT WILL WORK... and it’s easier than you think! Let our voices be heard and they will be forced to give us the shows WE want to hear... we need EQUAL time.

Shops, Radio stations (anyone that runs ads during Rush and other right wing radio brainwashing shows) etc. We need to start contacting these companies that place ads during Rush and other assbag shows like his.... Follow-up with flyers around your town, local organized efforts will get this accomplished.

IT STARTS NOW… lets turn Indiana blue. At DU, we have an amazing resource at our disposal, lets make it work for us.

Start listing companies and contact info below>>>

2. But even 'Angie's List' is run by the GOP!
How can we accomplish this if the private company purporting to be the 'watchdog' of local business practices is run by a staunchly GOP crowd? That seems to be a dismal sign...

As for Kittles, that's no loss: it's full of tasteless furniture anyway. IS there a furniture co. in Indiana that has a classy selection of furniture and isn't controlled by Republicans? If so, please fill me in (I get all my furniture from other states and countries with more progressive design trends and political views.)

4. Simon Malls are good
Mel & Bren Simon are big democratic donors-- they own many of the malls in the US, but also including the College Mall in Bloomington & the chic Fashion Mall at Keystone and co-owners of the Pacers-- Go Pacers!!

I wonder how well they are liked in Carmel. All of Hamilton county is as deep red as it gets!

Also I think that Jim Irsay is a good guy too. He gave to both campaigns, but something in my gut says he's a Dem. Maybe because he owns On The Road. So go Colts too!

31. The Simons are friends of the Clintons
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 09:04 AM by hippiechick
Big Dog stayed with them when he was here for the Indy 500 a couple years back. And Bryn Simon was going to run for Lt Gov w. Joe Andrew before Kernan opted in.

Most huge companies give to both parties, so they're bets are hedged no matter who wins. Although there are some who give significantly more to one side of the other - depending on their leanings.

5. Please post this information
in the "Progressive Pages" thread in this forum.

Several of us are already working on this tack, and we're trying to keep the infromation centralized so we can find all of it when we go back to put it into the database.

It may get missed in a thread by itself.
Thanks everyone!

35. Ack! I'm on there!
Remember that these are not corporate contributions, but contributions by individuals who list the company as their employer, which is required by law. So for example, IU didn't give that money, individuals employoed by IU did--I wonder how many gave IU affiliated individuals gave to Dems. I think that this list is only helpful in comparison, as a percentage of over all giving in order to gauge the "attitude" of the company.

38. sorry I'm 10 months late to this thread...
I slunk away in depression for a while after the election. I do, though, have an addition & a question.

I would add Reilly Industries of Indianapolis to this list. Reilly is a privately owned chemical company. Thomas Reilly, Jr., who was CEO from 1990-2003, (and who I assume still has at least partial ownership) donated nearly $30,000 to Repub. candidates in the 2004 election cycle. They make niacin, DEET, and more. Reilly was recently appointed as a trustee of Indiana University by our man Mitch.

Did he give to Mitch? But, of course! In fact, the 9 folks that Mitch appointed in July as trustees of IU, Purdue, Indiana State, and Ivy Tech collectively donated more than $52,000 to his election campaign. Mitch put his campaign manager, William Oesterle, in at Purdue. He gave ISU R. Brooks LaPlante, who was lost a controversial statehouse race in Terre Haute. He gave Ivy Tech a huge campaign donor - Ned Pfau, CEO of George Pfau's Son's Company, makers of industrial animal oils. Pfau is by far the biggest donor/trustee, having given $32,500 to Daniels. Mitch gave IU Reilly, who chaired the Higher Ed Committee of the Govt. Efficiency Commission & recommended that IU & Purdue enroll fewer undergraduate students & concentrate on research & grad students. My sense is that the IU administration is not happy about that.

Now... my question. The thread I'm replying to says that Indiana University donated more than $100,000 to political candidates. Can anyone tell me how that is possible, what is the source of that information, where did the money come from/go, etc?

Firestone the Optometrist...Aw, hell, practically EVERY doctor in Lafayette donates to the GOP and state GOP. It'd take less bandwidth to list the Dem doctors.

It's disheartening when you do some checking and realise that to avoid supporting ReTHUGlicans with your commerce that you'd have to move to Collie-For-Nya or Sea-Tac.

You pay money to live in Northern Indiana, you support those who support the GOP.

37. Insight Cable or any broadband internet service...
The Broadband Blues Show The Way

If you buy broadband internet service from cable, you can break
Fox News's hold on our politics and pocketbooks.

You tune in Fox News and see how they beat the drums for preemptive war, the
erosion of civil liberties, and bankrupt economic policies.

You watch as they recycle classic propaganda techniques, and spin half-truths in
support of right wing candidates and causes. You've seen OutFoxed. You check
Media Matters. You wonder why anyone believes their slogan about being "Fair
and Balanced."

2. Why Pretend?

Why not just say they are Right Wing TV News?

It's not that simple. A crucial revenue stream is at stake. Fox News has wangled
its way into the required "basic" cable and satellite package. Everybody pays for it,
even the majority who don't watch; even Democrats who can't stand it.

Fox News receives monthly licence fees from over 85 US million households. All
cable and satellite subscribers are required to pay as part of their basic services bill.
These payments total nearly $250 million a year, and big increases are in the works
