Indy get together

Is there any interest in having a gathering somewhere in Indy? Now that the weather has turned for the better it might be a good time to meet up in a park or at least plan it.

Just want to gauge the enthusiasm.

I hadn't planned to go to that one ... then I got all mixed up about Drinking Liberally, then got sick over the weekend ... So in other words, my last 2 weeks have been monumentally FUBAR'd.

She made a presentation to the group, from "Justice for Janitors".

The meeting was cancelled before I had a chance to notify her. She probably showed up @ Loughmillers & wondered where everyone was.

You postponed our meetup & didn't plan to go? Probably had a hot date is my guess.

Now she's probably thinking we're all abunch of flakes (is she right?) & won't show up next month if I invite her. Hope not, I thought Lisa wanted to work on linking with other groups. I'm trying my damndest. I actually went to the (incredibly boring) Indiana Democratic Club meeting. Do I get a Purple Heart?

But it's worth going for the guest speakers usually, althoguh I don't know what the topic is for next month. I should know in a few weeks after I go to the board of directors meeting.

My thoughts about the Democratic Club is that we need to make it a central place where people from all the various clubs and groups around the city can have one or two members become regular members of the Democratic Club. That way we all know who the other group sare and what they are doing and coupld possibly coordinate better.

Don't have to have things on the agenda for the meeting (lord knows the agenda there takes long enough as it is). But just knowing who other people are and what they're up to informally thoguh conversations before and after hte meetings can do nothing but improve our ability to work together here in Indy and the Central Indiana area.

13. We're talking about 2 different things ....

I didn't plan to go to the Dem Club Meeting that Descolada mentioned in HIS thread.

I DID plan to go to Meetup, but spent the last 6 days pukish, so 'officially' cancelled Meetup - but said in the email I sent that peeps could still get together if they wanted to.

I'd never cancel it just for the hell of it - but the 3 others I spoke with weren't going to be there either. It was looking like a wash.

2. I like the park idea

I really like Garfield Park. A warm spring or summer evening outdoors would be much nicer than a downtown bar. Just my $.02 worth. Thought about offering to do BBQ for a picnic but don't really have a way to transport my smoker.

Surprising here, but it is. Probably the nicest park in Indy, & I've been to most of them. Just a suggestion, not written in stone by any means.

Your first mission is to find out if we need to 'reserve' a shelter site/grill site; and if so - how, who, by when, etc.

I'll toss up a Q on Meetup about timeframe.

27. Well, last I checked there were plenty of streets with lanes going south

from here on N, NW, NE sides. Unless Mitch has them clogged up with broken down, used RVs. (Painted up with state money to look presentable, of course.)

28. Take 65 South to Raymond Street Exit

Turn right off of the exit to the intersection of Shelby and Raymond Street, turn left onto Shelby and go down a quarter mile to Shelby and Southern Avenue. Turn right there and the park is right there along Southern Avenue.

29. If anyone is interested in doing this in Garfield Park

email me at [email protected] and let me know if you are interested and a weekend in May that is best. I'll call the powers that be about getting some shelter to sit under. I'm thinking that closer to the end of May but not race weekend would be good, like the weekend before. Actually race weekend would be okay too, in my experience that unless you are headed in the direction of the track, the traffic in the rest of the city is pretty slow.

30. Race weekend may not be the best time..

as many folks have family events over Memorial Day weekend. As a Speedway resident, just getting into and out of Speedway on race day is nearly impossible- unless you do it during the race while all of the crazies are inside IMS. I would love to help with the picnic - let me know what needs to be done, and we'll make it happen...
