I will be performing live poetry to music at the Everglades Awareness Concert Saturday night
It's a huge event being held at Tobacco Road in downtown Miami, Miami's oldest bar, and it's all for a good cause. I am just a small part of it as there will be three stages with various bands and poets performing all night long. Read below for more details.

4th ANNUAL EVERGLADES AWARENESS BENEFIT CONCERT

AT TOBACCO ROAD

HOSTED BY

PLOPPY PALACE PRODUCTIONS

On Saturday, March 24, 2007 Ploppy Palace Productions and Tobacco Road will be hosting a concert to raise awareness and funds for the Everglades Skyway Coalition Campaign and the Miami Sierra Club’s efforts for Everglades protection. As part of this three stage extravaganza, some of South Florida's top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together to raise awareness for this vital natural resource and why it is internationally significant.

As a testament to the diversity of supporters for this cause, there will be a broad variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, folk, traditional Peruvian, vocal harmonies, melodic keyboards, Latin, funk, hip hop, experimental, tribal rhythms, world beat fusion, psychedelic grooves and various interactive jams.

Inner Voice, Ana Kanpa, Cuchara, Kuyayky, Haiku, Roly O. Trio, Hunters Moon, January, Sound Proof, Aurapool, Under No Order, Sabia Bruta Vibe Project, Los Inmigrantes, Carl Ferrari & Friends, Chris Beatz, Earthman Lanny Smith, Grant Livingston, Val C. Wisecracker, Anthony Nelson, Deep Water Willy, Jon Ryczek, Robby Hunter, Andrew Vait, Elise Melendez, Milo Antics, Seeds of Evolution, Lyka Jones and other selected performers will be showcasing original music.

Alonso and other spoken word artists will be presenting innovative poetry with musical accompaniment.

Mark A.S. will be offering a satirical commentary about history and the progressive attitude towards the environment.

TranZenDance Dance Company will be performing a variety of dance and movement pieces to energetic, rhythmic percussion and ambient tones.

In addition there will be rendering a live art demonstrations to visually complement the music.

In addition, there will be a DVD slide show from the Everglades Art Exhibition which will include artwork from Susan Andreasen, Gudrun Napp, Darlene Harris, Aeric Moskowitz, Mike & Deb Matthews, Marguerite Gil, Kathy Pietro, Danny Arenas, Elizabeth Del Pozo & Marc Amore, Silvia Llopis and Xavier Cortes.

Conservation advocates from Miami Sierra Club will be speaking about their involvement in the Everglades Awareness Campaign. Other speakers will include Katy Sorenson - Miami-Dade County Commissioner, Jonathan Ullman and Kristina Trotta from the Skyway Coalition, Ray Scattone from the F.I.U. Dept. of Environmental Studies, members of the Miami-Dade Green Party as well as a selection of special guests.

Miami Sierra Club, the Biscayne Nature Center, Marine Animal Rescue Society, Earth Save, Green Party of Miami-Dade County and other community organizations will have information booths with handouts and contacts to help educate about social issues and the environmental risk that threatens the natural balance of the Everglades. The event will work to raise funds and awareness for the Everglades Skyway Coalition Campaign and support efforts by the Miami Sierra Club and a selection of other organizations.

Currently, the Everglades is one of the most threatened natural habitat in the western hemisphere. Residential development, water management and agricultural use have shifted natural water patterns and have altered the vitality of the ecosystem. With an alarming number of people moving into South Florida every year, we need to come together and help to protect the Everglades for our survival.

In addition there will be vendors and small businesses promoting and selling their merchandise, including The Wallflower Gallery, Emerald City Imports, Ragamufyn, 75rabbit, Sergio Torres, Sandra Halpern-Stein, Aeric Moskowitz, Xango Juice and selected independent corporations.

The 4th Annual Everglades Awareness Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road is sponsored by Ploppy Palace Productions, Atlas Sound, Anamaze Productions, 7th Circuit Productions, Cymbal Outfitters, Online Gigs.com and The Wallflower Gallery.
