Fla. Parents Acquitted in Raw-Foods DeathFlorida Parents Acquitted in Death of Baby Daughter on Raw Foods Diet
The Associated Press

MIAMI Nov 7, 2005 — Two parents were acquitted Monday of manslaughter in the death of their 6-month-old daughter, who was fed a strict raw foods diet.

Joseph and Lamoy Andressohn were convicted of four counts of child neglect involving their four other children, who were also on the raw foods diet.

The jury deliberated less than two hours.

Woyah Andressohn weighed about 7 pounds, half the normal weight for her age, when she died in 2003. Prosecutors charged that the parents' unorthodox diet of wheat grass, coconut water and almond milk caused the girl to starve to death.

The defense argued that the girl's death was caused by DiGeorge syndrome, a rare chromosomal disorder that interferes with the development of a healthy immune system.

2. How sad for the justice system...
These parents were just as guilty as a Christian Scientist couple who withholds medical attention from their child in the sincere belief that God will heal him.

Ignorance kills.

I'm part of that system, and sometimes, it's more than I can bear.

Fuck all if these people shouldn't have their reproductive systems torn out with rusty garden shears...............

4. Oh hell yeah. You put into words what I grit my teeth to keep from saying
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Criminal ignorance.

If the parents were so damn interested in a wholesome-natural-foods-raw-diet, why didn't mommy breastfeed her baby? Then the poor little critter would have stood a chance of surviving to its first birthday at least.

Of course, if that famine diet was what the dimwit mother was consuming before, during, and after her pregnancy, the baby might have starved to death regardless.

It's possible the parents have been punished enough by the death of their child and the trial, but then again, since the jury found it was the kid's fault (so to speak) it's also possible they have not learned a damn thing.
