Ethanol refinery: Is it for Delaware?
After six days of hearings about ethanol in Dover, no consensus has been reached over whether a refinery would be good for Delaware.

Several possible locations for an ethanol refinery were proposed during the hearings, including a site next to NRG’s Indian River Power Plant in Millsboro.

An ethanol refinery requires water and a railroad service, and the Indian River location has both. However, environmentalists worry that adding another polluter to the already sensitive Inland Bays region would only create more problems.

Sen. George Bunting, D-Bethany Beach, agreed. Even if an ethanol refinery were approved in Delaware, Indian River would not be a prime location for it, he said.

“I don’t see it happening in Delaware. With the Indian River power plant situation, adding anything down there is not doable,” said Bunting.
