My LTTE in the Norwich Bulletin: Lieberman faces simple job review
http://www.norwichbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060227/OPINION03/602270308/1014/OPINION

published today Monday, Feb. 27, 2006

U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn., termed Ned Lamont's primary challenge to U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman "harmful" to Democrats' efforts to win back control of Congress. ("Greenwich Democrat sets sight on Senate," Feb. 23)

What a defeatist attitude. On top of that, what an incorrect analysis of primaries Dodd has.

Lieberman should consider himself lucky that he has to undergo a job review only once every six years, and he hasn't undergone a Democratic review since 1988. We ordinary Americans undergo a job review at least once per year.

Primaries are about reviewing a candidate's capabilities and holding office-holders accountable for their decisions and actions by the party that they claim to support. Primaries are part of the democratic process, Sen. Dodd.

Contrary to what Dodd says, it's Lieberman who is divisive. When President Bush needs a Democrat to cover his bad decisions or incompetence, he can count on Lieberman to enthusiastically attack fellow Democrats for behaving like a true opposition party.

Lieberman is long overdue for a job review. He is a public servant, and we are his employers.

4. Considering Joe has more support amongst Republicans than Democrats...
...I don't see the logic at all.

First of all, the Republicans have no announced candidates, and have shown little or no interest in supporting one well-financed candidate that I know of.

Secondly, Joe Lieberman is God's gift to the Republican Party. They use him to contradict reasonable Democrats every chance they get. He's become the Zell Miller of the northeast.

Joe the opportunist has lost his bearings and supports GW in every major blunder. His recent suggestion that "It's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge he'll be commander-in-chief for three more years. We undermine the president's credibility at our nation's peril" is bizarre and absurd. Who's undermining who? Pointing out facts only illuminates the failures of a president who has undermined our country and himself past the point of credibility to utter contempt at home and abroad.

The real question is what do the Republicans do, and what does Joe do, when Ned Lamont beats him in the primary. And what shenanigans will they pull to try to make sure that doesn't happen.

5. From what I understand
after the date of the primary it will be too late to nominate anyone.

So, unless the Repukes have previously cross-endorsed Lieberman, they can't do it at that time.

Also, unless Lieberman has filed as an Independent, he can't do it at that time, either.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
