Schwarzenegger Praises Racist Militia Group: Talking Point
"They've done a terrific job. And they have cut down the crossing of illegal immigrants by a huge percentage."

This is what Arnold Schwarzenegger said about the racist militia group called "Minutemen" that stations itself at the border with the intention of attacking those they think are crossing illegally from Mexico. We've seen US citizens killed by those who thought they were "illegal immigrants" as well.

It's important that this group, that even racist President Bush referred to as "vigilantes," be characterized as a "militia" and not an "armed citizens group," as some media have done. This group's aim is fascist, racist scapegoating for the failures of this country. We must stand up and oppose racist terror.

Schwarzenegger has openly crossed the line and has in effect endorsed the KKK and other white supremacist groups that are rife within "Minutemen." We must land the final blow to crush him politically, while the time is opportune.

Schwarzenegger must resign!

1. Start by loudly reminding
all those Californians who voted him in how fucking stupid they are.
We not only have to get rid of the Radical Right pols, but pound on their voters, too.

2. Los Angeles Times (April 29): Gov. Praises 'Minuteman' Campaign
From the Los Angeles Times
Dated Friday April 29

Gov. Praises 'Minuteman' Campaign
Schwarzenegger says group's patrols against illegal immigrants have been effective. One critic calls remarks 'nothing short of base racism.'
By Peter Nicholas and Robert Salladay, Times Staff Writers

Sacramento —
Calling the nation's borders dangerously porous, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday praised the private "Minuteman" campaign that uses armed volunteers to stop illegal immigrants from crossing into the U.S.

Schwarzenegger said in a radio interview that the federal government is failing to secure the border with Mexico, and he cast the hundreds of private citizens who have been patrolling the Arizona-Mexico border since April 1 as a popular response to government inaction.

"I think they've done a terrific job," Schwarzenegger said of the "Minuteman" volunteers, who plan to expand to California in June. "They've cut down the crossing of illegal immigrants a huge percentage. So it just shows that it works when you go and make an effort and when you work hard. It's a doable thing."

The governor added that, "It's just that our federal government is not doing their job. It's a shame that the private citizen has to go in there and start patrolling our borders."

Very disappointing

4. Expanding to Calif.???
Now THAT should be interesting, considering our state's entire economy depends on the cheap labor from these folks. Agriculture is the name of the game here, and anything Ahnuld says that would cost them money, is going to get him bounced out on his ear.

8. and I don't think any citizen can carry guns in public in CA
I'm not up on the gun laws here...but
don't think we're like Texas or Florida yet.

Maybe it's all those yacht buyers trolling
the coastline down there, waiting til they
don't have to pay any CA taxes on them.

9. No, you can't
Fascist Reagan changed that to try and disarm the Black Panther Party. They were "pro-gun," but not pro-guns for oppressed Black people, apparently.

It was Reagan who changed that law to stop
the Black Panthers from entering city/state
buildings armed .

17. There is no restriction against open carry in unincorporated areas
I live in California and am very familiar with its gun laws (see my profile).

Unless you are in a municipality that restricts open carry of loaded firearms (as most of them do), you can carry a loaded pistol, rifle, or shotgun openly. It's not very unusual to see someone with a holstered pistol out in the back country, or riding on horseback with a holstered rifle or shotgun.

It's legal to carry a loaded weapon on federal land operated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Most of land adjacent to the Mexican border falls into that category in Imperial County, and a portion of San Diego County including the recently designated Otay Mountain Wilderness Area through which a lot of illegal border crossers travel.

It is not legal to carry a weapon in a state park, however there are no California state parks that abut the Mexican border.

Bottom line - I estimate that it's legal to carry a loaded firearm on about 80% of the border lands.

11. Exactly the same?
Even the Chimp knows enough to keep his distance from these Storm Troopers.

I'm really disappointed in Arnold about this. I disagree with him on many things, but I thought he had a better equilibrium.

is with the same "dumbed down" language"....i'm sure the chimp feels the same way about immigration, but his handlers won't allow him to say it. ahnuld thinks he's above that. he speaks his mind, hell be damned, and he's paying the price.

6. TV commercials are needed on this now!
They should highlight the assaults that have occurred on the border and should especially be targeted in the Bay Area and on Spanish-language stations.

7. SPLC Article: Nazis, racists join Minuteman Project

Nazis, racists join Minuteman Project

DOUGLAS, Ariz. | April 22, 2005 -- For months, Jim Gilchrist promised that his Minuteman Project would peacefully observe the Arizona border as a protest against illegal immigration. Volunteers — he said there would be 1,300 of them — would be carefully screened, with FBI help, to keep out white supremacists and racists. No one would be allowed to bear guns except those who had permits to carry concealed weapons.

Gilchrist said that critics who called his group "vigilantes" — naysayers who included President Bush — were absolutely wrong about his volunteers.

Indeed, Gilchrist told USA Today, these men and women sought only to bring attention to a major social problem. Most were "white Martin Luther Kings."

Maybe so. But Gilchrist's accuracy has been less than sterling.

As the month-long April project started, some 300 volunteers showed up — a thousand fewer than predicted. An FBI official denied that the agency was screening Gilchrist's or any other private group's members. At least four-fifths of volunteers did carry weapons, and almost none were checked for permits. Racist talk abounded. And at least some neo-Nazis and other racists did join in Gilchrist's project.

"Attacking"? I thought all they did was observe and report.

This group's aim is fascist, racist scapegoating for the failures of this country.

I thought they did a pretty good job of shining light on the federal government's ongoing failure to secure the border. But they did nothing to reduce illegal immigration.

18. He is treading a fine line,
and his foot seems to be hanging out over the wrong side. (If I was into crudity I might say his body parts appear to be hanging out over the wrong side.) He hasn't touched down, yet. . . just given an appearance of political correctness according to the standards of those who think just as he expressed but don't say it aloud. He is increasing his base. His point I think is that the Feds are not doing their job and he could do it better. He chose an unfortunate airspace to hang in. As I've said so many times here, words are important. And his words give permission for wrong behavior. In that sense he indeed did put his heel down squarely on the face of others who like himself want to get ahead here, and perhaps then followed his boot with a liquid stream.
