No Air America? Any other liberal radio stations in LA area?
Since Air America is off the air, are there any other liberal leaning radio stations in the Los Angeles area that folks can recommend?

1. Not L.A. area but here's some streaming radio links :
Try www.whiterosesociety.org for a host of links to liberal radio on the Internet. Archives for Randi Rhoades, Tom Hartmann, and Peter Werbe among others.

Some more links:
www.thomhartmann.com
www.radiopower.org (also carries Randi Rhoades' AA show)
www.pacifica.org
www.wbai.org (Pacifica affiliate, New York station)

Thank the gods for the Internet :).

2. So, nothing to listen to while in the car?
The streaming radio sites are pretty good, but unfortunately you can't listen to them in the car. :(

4. There are some liberal hosts on the air
KABC 790 has Ken Minyard from 5-9am weekdays, "Mr. KABC" from 9pm-1am weeknights, Brian Whitman on Sunday from 6-9, and Leo Terrell on Sunday 9pm-Midnight.

KFI 640 has Wayne Resnick on Saturday at 4pm I think.

KGO 810 comes in here in Orange County late at night. I think Ray Taliafero is on weeknights/mornings at 1am.

KLSX 97.1 isn't really a political talk station, but Howard Stern has really been blasting Bush and has become much more liberal when political issues come up.

12. Dale Dye is a hoot if you're in the right mood
Same goes for Phil "I'm-Really-A-Democrat" Hendrie. Then again, I live behind the Orange Curtain (where Savage is considered a pinko) so YMMV.

Those outside the area who'd like to hear Wayne Resnik (or even the captive pigs :P ) can go to www.kfi640.com Saturdays 5-7pm PT.

8. 1050 AM from Riverside carries at least two of the shows
O'Franken: 3 to 6 P.M.
Randi Rhodes 6 P.M. to 10 P.M.

It's a local station with local commercials.

Last I heard KCAA was only running an hour of her show. Did they start airing the whole 4 hours? That would be great!

9. Pacifica Radio is KPFK in LA at 90.7 FM and 98.7 in Santa Barbara
They don't come more liberal than that, but a little ragged in the programming at times. And the sound production can be irritating. I listen on my morning commute between Ventura and Santa Barbara, where the signal fades in and out (interspersed with some dog-awful valley girl tripe that has the 98.7 signal in LA or somewhere). Amy Goodman is on with Democracy Now at 6:00 and 9:00 AM, with constant social justice and political talk through the morning hours. Great world music in the early afternoon. Spanish progressive programming in the late evenings, 9:00 PM I think, which is an interesting experiment, but I turn it off after a little while if I am driving then because my Spanish is not that good. Still, listening regularly to KPFK is almost as good as DU, I would swear someone there is reading these boards because I often hear quotes or perspectives I have just read here.

They also have streaming audio and archives at www.kpfk.org

10. Some of the people on KPFK are very anti-Democrat/ pro-Green
I understand one of their hosts is calling for protests of both OUR convention and the Republicans.

14. I would have to disagree. KPFK is the quintessential liberal station.
It doesnt tow anyone or any Partys line. I have disagreed with some of the hosts and the quality a few times.

However its light years more refreshing than the plastic packaged, empty corporate shrill you can get from other stations.

These days I welcome anything authentic, however raw and/or not as professional, especially if its honest.

On the other hand, Amy Goodman at 6:00 and 9:00 in the mornings is in my opinion, the most professional and best journalist in the industry these days.
