Poll question: Given that 76% here are planning to vote for Jerry for attorney general
(according to a poll that's still up), should Democratic Underground endorse him? 76% is rather overwhelming. Since he's the odds-on-favorite to win, it might put us on record as supporting the winning candidate. I only have the two options because of the size of the margin.

I'd vote for JB, though. :)

4. It would be a good idea to endorse. His opponent will only help Arnold.
A lot of people have concerns about the ethics of one of Jerry's opponents for the nomination. A great many people are aware that the opponent, by his own admissions, was connected to some extremely bad FEC violations. If the opponent, through dirty politics, wins the nomination, he'll probably either be brought down prior to the general election or when he takes office, giving Arnold another appointment. It is interesting that the opponent is opposed to all campaign finance laws.

6. I voted for him twice when he was governor
I think he has a good mind and a good heart, ideal for goverment service. His actions during the '92 campaign were less than coherent, and I think he paid a price. I'd truly would like to see him back in state government.

He would have fought the corporations and given the country back to the people.

12. DLC Dunn supports the corporations' right to buy candidates.
He opposes campaign contribution limits on CORPORATIONS, PACs and individuals. He also opposes spending limits, and he opposes any public financing of campaigns. He also opposes same day registration. Wonder what corporation he is expecting to finance his AG race.

Brown has set voluntary limits on contributions to his campaign. I choose the more honorable man.

16. voluntary limits?
not according to his website

Dear Friends:

Next to that of the governor, the job of attorney general is viewed as the most important post in California government. As chief law enforcement officer and counsel to every state board, department and commission, the reach of the office is vast. Now, with the real dangers of terrorism and the risk that our civil liberties might be eroded, the stakes are much higher.

Although the March 2006 Primary is far over the horizon, I have put in place a solid campaign team and raised over a million and a half dollars—with support coming from all over the country.

It is crucial to build on this momentum. If we can raise a substantial amount in the next six months, I am hoping that members of my own party who might be inclined to run for attorney general will seek other offices. In that way, all money raised will be available for an effective campaign focused on the general election.

Let me be clear. These are dangerous times. Our former U.S. attorney general declared whole classes of people outside the protection of law. Basic guarantees of the Fourth and Sixth Amendments are threatened. President Bush is under pressure to appease fundamentalists with Supreme Court appointees who will repeal Roe vs. Wade. As California’s attorney general, my commitment will be to defend—vigorously—our basic constitutional values. Long experience in state and local government prepares me for this kind of challenge.

Both my father and Earl Warren served as California’s attorney general and are giants in political history because they put principle above politics and believed that each person was equal before the law. That’s my philosophy as well.

I am asking for your help. Recent state law limits donations to $5,300 from any one individual or corporation. Please give as much as you can. Support at this early stage is very, very important.

he's trying to cut out the competition by building his war chest

that's not good for democracy is it?

and why is he soliciting donations from out of state? wonder if he's going to be using the AG spot for a springboard for higher office?

no, not Jerry. He's a saint.

17. According to Brown's website, he has set voluntary limits for himself.
Dunn has refused to do so. If you look at Dunn's form at Project Vote Smart, you will see that he is opposed to all limits.

spending?

He will fight for laws that prevent corporations from buying officials. His opponents are opposed to those laws.

go read his website

he's asking people for the full amount

if he wants to fight for laws, let him run for the assembly

that way he'll actually get to vote on the issues

but the assembly is a step down for someone who's ego is as big as his

Other candidates are foregoing the honorable mention in the pamphlet and are willing to take as much as people will give.

actually that's not an original idea

Audie Bock, a former state assembly member who ran originally as a Green. did that among great publicity

she took Amtrak to Sacramento every day.

and on the flake-o-meter, Bock ranks up there with Governor Moonbeam

20. It's not that long of a drive. He probably will use mass transit.
The commute from Riverside or San Bernardino to LA is much worse.

Imagine, all the people riding on the train with Jerry Brown every morning. He's really incredible.

He wouldn't live in the huge governor's mansion when he was governor. He lived in an apartment, instead. I think he currently lives in a loft in the old Sears building at 27th and Telegraph. Not the worst neighborhood in Oakland, but nowhere near the best.

I live in Oakland, and his spirit and dedication has done a lot to make it a better place. Oakland's problems are long standing and intransigent, but Brown's done as well as anyone could.

Thanks for the support, Genius. Of course, I support Jerry.
He will trounce anyone in the primary and will win easily in the general election.

As far as spending limits, Jerry Brown set the bar most high in 1992 by accepting only $100 donations and yet managed to place second in the Democratic National Presidential Primaries, and only to Bill Clinton. Brown slept on couches and on the floors of friends and supporters across the nation. I know. I was there from the very beginning of that national campaign up until the night of his rousing speech at the national convention in NYC.

Best of all, he will make a great AG for us here in California. I can't wait.
