LA police chief says area shopping centers no longer under threat of attack

By MASON STOCKSTILL, Associated Press Writer
Last Updated 6:42 pm PDT Saturday, May 1, 2004

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The unspecified threat of a potential terrorist strike against area shopping centers, which prompted increased patrols by police and mall security guards, has passed, police Chief William Bratton said.

Bratton said there is no longer any need for extra security following a threat that an unnamed mall near the Federal Building in West Los Angeles would be struck this past Thursday by terrorists.

"Go out and shop again," he said Friday.

The suggestion proved unnecessary, since warnings of a potential attack appeared to have little effect on consumers who still flocked Thursday to malls, including the Westside Pavilion, less than two miles from the Federal Building.

1. So, the strategy isn't working.
"warnings of a potential attack appeared to have little effect on consumers who still flocked Thursday to malls"

I wonder how many terrorist alerts we'll experience before November.

2. Car-jackers, & pick-pockets & terrorists! O! My!
Having practiced Tai Chi for 30 years, such people should stay far away from me....

However, what does keep me out of shopping malls, is the Bush economy
