Poll: Dianne Feinstein's numbers slipping
By JUSTIN HO | 6/21/11 10:02 AM EDT

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s approval rating among California voters has slipped in recent months, forecasting possible trouble for the 77-year-old senator as she prepares to campaign for her long-held Senate seat next year, a new poll shows.

A new Field Poll survey found that 43 percent of California voters approve of the job Feinstein is doing, while 39 percent disapprove - her highest disapproval rating in the year before an election since she won office in 1992. Of those polled, 18 percent had no opinion.

The numbers reflect a decline from a Field Poll in March, which found 48 percent of voters approving and 33 percent disapproving.

“With Feinstein, we’ve never seen these kinds of numbers before, where it’s so close,” Field poll director Mark DiCamillo told the San Francisco Chronicle. “I was more surprised in March, but to see it replicated - this was a large sample - I just think it’s a very different economic and political backdrop we’re going to have in 2012 than we’ve seen in any previous election year for Feinstein.”

1. Are there any hints of competition for her?
Anyone from the left going to try to primary her? I wish she would get out and let some new, non-dino person get elected.

2. They'd have to fight the CDP
as she is their darling. I wish Bowen would challenge her but it won't happen. She COULD just decline to run again but these wars are making her and her husband far too rich.

3. That was my awakening to DiFi
My biggest gripe with her, among many, was before the Iraq war started. I never got involved with protests, letter writing etc. But, probably mostly thanks to reading on DU, I could see that all the hype and propaganda re going to war was BS. So I wrote letters to her asking her to please vote against the war resolution. Then sometime later, I read a statement she made saying that if she had listened to her constituents, who had written to her in numbers over 10,000, she would have voted against the resolution. But she claimed that she had inside secret info about the WMD's, etc being true, so she HAD to vote to go to war to get rid of Saddam. Silly me, I'd always thought that her job was to represent her constituents not her benefactors in the MIC. Ugh, she disgusts me.

4. I vigorously disapprove of the job Feinstein is doing
and would gladly support a primary challenger -- but in the end, would enter the polling place, place a clothespin firmly over my nose, and vote for DiFi over any repuke.
