Okay nobody in GD cares but we in California have
been handed a gift, an almost straight Democratic win in Sacramento and two-thirds majority of Democrats in both the California Senate and Legislature. We will be able to pass all the legislation on health care, environment and creating real jobs that Arnold vetoed. The rest of the country has been teabagged but we will lead the way. I hope the single payer health care bills are put back on the calendar to begin with.

2. Yes, it's a good feeling to have our potential back
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 09:48 PM by Merlot
But we weren't handed a gift, we fought for it!

And it was a straight dem win, Kamala Harris won too.

And all that legislation that arnie vetoed is now going to move forward.

4. I know what you mean about the gift, though
it's like the other kids got a lump of coal and we got a bright shiney new bike!

I'm so happy for us, even though I know things are a mess. Maybe this is what they mean about all politics being local.

5. I feel bad being happy when everyone's so bummed but
Man a lot of people worked hard to defeat big money candidates and propositions, and they said it couldn't be done....it does feel good. It means it can be done!

6. Also, we've been through years and years of
Republican mismanagement and outright theft. It's time the pendulum swung for us. I mean look what Enron did to this state and what Darryl Issa did to Grey Davis, so that we had to endure Arnold and his incompetence and Republican toadies that brought us to being an almost failed state.

7. My only fear is that the structural budget problems in CA will hog tie
any progressive programs (such as single payer health care) that are implemented in the near future. It will be interesting to see what happens though.

9. It will be a test to see what Dems can actually do when working together.
I sure hope we pass the test.

10. Another message that was sent out election
night is - stop fu*king with our unions!!

We sent this message out during the Special election,
and we sent it out Tuesday night.

The anti-union candidates ( on the state level) went
down BIGTIME!

:)

On the local level here in my city- not so much.
:(

11. Here in San Jose, the Reed and his fellow faux Dems on the city council...
...all but busted the unions. They got their wish. V and W passed with 70% of the vote. Uneffing believable. Sad day for police and firefighters.

12. We had the same problem here in Costa Mesa.
One of the union-busting candidates elected to our city council is in an all out
war with our PD and firefighters!

Just great!!

17. Yet Chuckles' pet council candidates Carrasco and Pegram (!) ate it
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 03:06 PM by KamaAina
even though Carrasco's opponent is, ahem, ethically challenged.

V in particular really troubles me. Arbitration is there because the police and fire unions can't strike against the public safety. So now Chuckles (D-But Endorsed Raging Homophobe Pegram For Council) can basically dictate their contracts to them. :grr:

13. Perhaps the only way to survive the national insanity will be to...
wrap ourselves in our California cocoon. I swear, my mind is about to explode when I read about everything that is going on "out there."

It's like we have this tiny island of sanity. I think that for the foreseable future I will only read or think about things that concern this great state of ours.

It's depressing just listening to what Boner and Turtleman are planning for the President.

16. Lots of us who live outside California
are pulling for you too.

Surprisingly, I don't feel as depressed--or angry--as I'd expected to after such a Republican "sweep." That's due to two things: 1) Harry Reid's 5-point victory and 2) the California results.

{Oh yes, and a little because I used to live in the Midwest, and I know that if there'd been a half-way viable 3rd party like the Perotistas in 1992 the Republicans too would have taken a haircut or worse there. It's going to take more than 2 years of Republican posturing to bring the jobs back to those depressed factory towns.)

But anyhow, please hang in there and push to get some real solutions started. Modern Canadian health coverage started in one province. If a single payer plan can get going in California it could well be irresistable. The infighting over "Obamacare" will just become irrelevant if California makes a single-payer plan (or even nearly-) work.

The 10th Amendment can be our friend!
