Whitman writes another big check to her campaign
Well, so much for Republican fiscal restraint.

Billionaire Meg Whitman has contributed an additional $13 million of her own money to her effort to become California's next governor, bringing the Republican nominee's personal stake in her election bid to $104 million.

The donation was filed Friday with the California secretary of state's office. Whitman, the former chief executive of EBay, is in a dead heat with Democratic nominee Jerry Brown despite the fact that she has vastly outspent the California attorney general since she won the primary election in June.

Brown has said his shoestring campaign is a necessity during the summer, and he is marshaling his resources for the fall. But his campaign has been the beneficiary of independent expenditures from unions, which the Whitman campaign said is what prompted her to write another large check.

"Meg is investing the necessary resources to fight the $13 million in attacks Jerry Brown Inc. has launched to defend the status quo in Sacramento," said spokeswoman Sarah Pompei.

1. How can anyone believe any of her bullshit about fiscal conservatism
when she spends like this in order to get elected. It's plain she has absolutely no concept of the value of money.

If she's willing to blow such a big chunk of her own dough to get elected, how can we trust her to be a wise steward of other peoples (our) money?

9. And ironically,
Jerry brown's latest ad preaches fiscal resonsibility like an old-school Republican! This is a true testament to how far to the right both parties have swung.

3. I LURVE that she's running against Jerry Brown.
He wouldn't even live in the governor's mansion because it was too wasteful.

LOL

4. It also suggest that she isn't getting much money from donors
How much has she raised? Not that much apparently. Tells me no one is that excited to have her
as governor.

If Democratic turn-out is low, we are screwed!

I'm wondering how she expects to recover these monies.

6. It is always money, politics, and power
There are few in society who think primarily about the greater good.

How can a person spend $100 million of their own money for a $200K job unless they know that there is something in it? I think she sees it as an investment in her future political fortunes possibly as a candidate for POTUS. Many of these people think the same, and after they have a billion dollars what else is there but to gain more power and celebrity via politics.

It is unfortunate that more of those with massive amounts of money don't come up with projects that would help the greater good and provide opportunities for more Americans instead of working to gain power and more wealth for their own.

7. How come Whitman's ads & media spots NEVER mentions that the lying rich bag is a slimy REPUBLICAN?
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 05:15 PM by GreenTea
Whitman's tactic is to keep it from the uninformed - to make them believe like it's just two people (her & Brown) going at it for Governorship....

Whitman's money buys her lies, distortions and SMEARS so she stays quiet in a predominantly democratic state that she is a republican, a strategy republicans use all over the country so as to keep the gullible & ignorant recognizing that Whitman is indeed just another republican fighting for more corporations greed over the peoples needs!!

8. Have you seen her campaign posters in the Barrios?
It is in Spanish and in translation it reads how she is concern about our Childrens Education. Yeah right! All we get is a senile Jerry Brown to oppose her! Does Jerry know he is running fore governor?

Here is a song about Prop.19
