Ending days of speculation, Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Alamo, has publicly endorsed state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, to be her replacement in Congress.

"(DeSaulnier) is a seasoned, hardworking public servant who would do a great job," Tauscher said.

Rep. George Miller, D-Martinez, has also thrown his support behind his longtime ally and friend.

"We have worked together at all levels of government and he is a tremendous advocate and representative for our constituents," Miller said. "He is a hard worker, has great integrity and will help move our country forward."

Since Tom Torlakson took himself out of the the running DeSaulnier (new to the state senate, prior assembly member, prior Contra Costa county supervisor) probably has the best name recognition among the potential Democratic candidates.

George Miller represents the adjacent district.

2. I'm actually surprised that DeSaulnier lives in the right part of Concord to be in the 10th.
I always think of Concord as Miller's district. He gets decent ratings from liberal-side groups and the Miller endorsement means a lot to me.

The bad news for me is I'll get a new senator out of the deal and I'm not sure who the Dem candidate might be. I'm betting that Guy Houston (R-pinhead, San Ramon) will run on the R side. Mary Nejedly Piepho is someone else who comes to mind -I don't know what her affiliation is but her father was a Repub.

3. Miller's Endorsement means a lot to me as well
Part of Concord used to be in Miller's District but was redistricted
to Tauscher about 6 or 7 years ago . Imagine my surprise when
I couldn't vote for Miller anymore .
