SoCal DUer's,
Anybody up for a group campout?

I am not 100% sure that I can work out all the details, and there will probably be some (modest) fees, but I am thinking that it has possibilities. Nice neutral ground, good hiking --- if all of SoCal hasn't burnt to the ground by then.

Of course I will have to figure out how to eliminate freeper lurkers and how to allow folks to remain anonymous if they so wish, but neither is insurmountable.

I am thinking late August or early September (the best, to avoid the tourists --- and thunderstorms) at a (very nice, but a little rough) drive-to spot, although I should be able to arrange a backcountry option (one night or two) for those so inclined.

Again, I have to check out the details, but before wasting too much time, I am curious if there is any interest. You can reply here or PM me. (SERIOUS replies only, please!)

Oh, and I am not going to post any details, but the spot I have in mind is about two hours from anywhere in SoCal.

Of course there is always a chance that all of the public backcountry will be closed by then and probably no fires will be allowed. But it might be fun --- and we could probably all use some.

1. Looks like all the forests are going to be closed very soon.
Idea cancelled -- By the time the forests are opened back up, it will be too damn cold at elevation.

2. closing the forests? what's up with that?
I'm up for some other kind of get together. I'm in LA and there are lots of parks that we could picnic in. Griffith Park perhaps?

3. Just lost my reply like two seconds before I posted it.
UPS let me down, much tstorms, power getting flakey --- must go.

New policy from last year -- keep everybody out of the national forests/some state parks -- period.

CDF guy said today it will be announced real real soon. Maybe BS, but I thought it better not to disappoint people.

Got to figure out what is up with that UPS --- not that old. Time to go.
