Arnold Schwarzenegger re-elected next year, but when the beleaguered Republican is tested against possible Democratic candidates he's still competitive, a new poll shows.
The statewide Field Poll released Wednesday shows California voters, by a margin of 55 percent to 36 percent, don't want a second Schwarzenegger term.
But when matched against specific Democrats who are running - state Treasurer Phil Angelides and state Controller Steve Westly - he seems to have more than a fighting chance of getting re-elected.
"You can't beat somebody with nobody, and right now the challengers aren't that well known," said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll.
