This summer, Ortiz and adviser Richie Ross denied rumors that she wants to run for Sacramento mayor someday. Instead, they said she was focused on the insurance commissioner race.

But plans change.

Now she's running for secretary of state and said she hopes to "restore some credibility and accountability" to the political process.

There's just something about Bustamante I don't quite trust. I'd much rather work for her than Cruz. I'd prefer that Garamendi took another run at it, but that's not happening.

she was the first one to announce even when Kevin Shelly was still in office and said that he wouldn't resign
