In an e-mail from Jason Willet, head of the Arkansas Democratic Party:
Another Reason to Vote Democrat
While speaking to the Washington County Republican Women this week, likely Republican Attorney General nominee Gunner DeLay proved how much he's like his Texas Cusin Tom DeLay.
Gunner announced that if he, Asa Hutchinson and GOP Secretary of State hopeful Jim Lagrone were elected, they could redraw state House districts in such a way that would guarantee the Republican Party several more seats. Gunner has said for a while now that he doesn’t really know his cousin Tom DeLay over in Texas, but he’s sure starting to sound and act like him.
It seems unfathomable for me that a candidate to be our state’s highest law enforcement officer would publicly state that he’d use that office to carve up Arkansas for political gain, but that’s what Gunner is doing. Rather that proposing any ideas on how he’d use the office to protect Arkansas’s citizens – in short, do his job as Attorney General – he’s running around telling folks that the main reason he should be elected is because he can help oust Democrats from office.
His cousin, Tom DeLay, had a plan to redistrict the Texas state House and that state’s US House Districts to gain more Republican seats. The plan worked. Where is Tom DeLay now? He’s facing federal indictments for money laundering and conspiracy and could go to jail for life.
Meanwhile, Arkansas Democrats have three Attorney General candidates with courage, honor and conviction who are campaigning on ideas. These are men who want to put the people of Arkansas first rather than be a pawn for a handful of extremists.
The issue is a simple one. We need to tell Gunner DeLay we don’t want to see this state carved up to suit the needs his and his cousin Tom’s ilk.Vote Democrat.
