to Congressman Vic Snyder and Senator Blanche Lincoln:
Some of this is just unbelievable.
"Ed Garner, an unsuccessful write-in challenger to Snyder in 2002, called Snyder 'the worst representative Arkansas has.'" SNIP "We need to get people off welfare rolls," Garner said. "Republicans are the working people of Arkansas. We work, we go home tired, we want to keep our money."
SNIP Marvin Parks, minority leader in the state legislature, opposes Garner in the primary. Parks said he supported the Bush tax cuts and has never voted for a tax increase himself, in contrast to Snyder, who, Parks said voted against the tax cuts.
SNIP There are two Republicans vying for the chance to run against Blanche Lincoln (or Lisa Burks as it could be) as well.
Jim Holt is now a state senator, businessman, and pastor who "leads by conviction." "Jim walks with God. He acts according to biblical standards." Speaking of the gay marriage issue, Holt's spokesman said that "they're wanting to make our nation look like Som and Gomorrah." The Democrats will likely outspend the Republicans,he said, but "Jim's campaign is based on faith - I've seen the miracles. We're not relying on money, we're relying on the good Lord."
SNIP The other candidate is Andy Lee, a retired Sheriff from Benton County who earned a reputation for running "the most hated jail in Arkansas." Lee said he took away the inmates' televisions and radios, their razor blades and pillows. "They had no hot meals," he said. "They had no coffee, no tea, no orange juice. The only thing we gave them to drink was water and powdered milk. We were known for having three colds and a cot." He did provide his inmates with "a most powerful ministry" said Lee. He installed a replica of the ten commandments at the jail, which was ordered removed by the courts, as well as a aptismal font. "We baptized over 500 people in the jail," he said.
SNIP "They hated us at the jail," he continued. "But they respected us, and we should base our foreign policy on the same philosophy. You don't have to like America, but you'll respect us."
It goes on. I am amazed at some of these people's views.
