10 MVD offices in Arizona to close by Friday

by Casey Newton - Feb. 11, 2010 10:50 AM
The Arizona Republic

Time is running out to conduct business at some Motor Vehicle Division branches across the state.

Budget cuts have forced the closure of branches from Ajo to Williams. Friday is the last day six branches will be open. The Fredonia office closed Monday; Ajo and Kearny closed Wednesday.

The branches served a combined 28,000 customers a month.

In the Valley, the central Phoenix location at 2739 E. Washington St. is closing, as is the east Mesa branch at 7631 E. Main St.

The other closing branches are located in Benson, Bisbee, Superior and Willcox.

After the branches close, residents can still obtain many MVD services at www.servicearizona.com. They also can visit more than 140 privately operated MVD locations. A list is available at www.azmvdservices.com.

The St. Johns location, which had been targeted for closure, will remain open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting Feb. 16 through a partnership with the city. The location might move. MVD is also working to develop a partnership with Clifton.
