Pick up the latest issue of the New Times
The cover story is called DONKEY KONG
It's got a pic (cartoon) of a big donkey with Janet's face kicking a little elephant.

Long article about the history of the democratic party in Az, and about how we are in
real good shape as a party right now.

About how Kyl's approval ratings are real low in AZ because he is
more to the right of Bsh. So Pederson does have a chance :)

The New Times has been printing alot of great articles about politics lately.
Me thinks the staff must be as fed up as we are.

1. This article?
http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/Issues/2006-02-23/news/feature.html

Dennis DeConcini was always a centrist Democrat, a "Pinto Democrat" as they used to be called here, but like many moderates in the party, he still felt a deep fondness for the intellectual and moral champions of the liberal cause. One such man was Phoenix attorney John Frank, among other things a leading legal scholar against segregation.

Besides respecting Frank, who died last year, DeConcini knew that Frank was the linchpin to his getting elected as and remaining a U.S. senator from Arizona.

As a moderate, DeConcini needed a voice from the liberal end of the party. Frank -- who first respected DeConcini's father and later gained respect for the senator himself -- gave him that support.

Which, in the late 1980s and early '90s, brought with it the support of a young feminist attorney named Janet Napolitano, a bright political and legal underling of Frank's at his politically powerful Phoenix firm, Lewis & Roca.

4. I know the words "centrist" and "moderate" are not always what we want
to hear.

But - if it means getting more dems elected in this state, I can live with that.

7. I don't disagree with you at all.
I was asking because here in Tucson, I don't know about
the New Times.
Since you didn't provide a link, I wanted to be sure to be
reading the article you refered to.

8. Lucky you living in Tucson.
I love Tucson, tho they really need to do something about the traffic.

I went to college at U of A - just a few years ago-haha. And stayed for a few
years after that. One of these days I want to move back.

9. I've solved the traffic problem.
I live two blocks from a grocery store,
a fifteen minute SunTran ride to work
and 75 paces from a bus top.

:hi:

2. They're taking us seriously!
Pretty good synopsis of the situation. I think Pederson has a chance as long as he gets a concise message about the war (and the RIGHT message - as in, get out) and gets his name out there. Personally, I think the pugs screwed up when they sicced Sheriff Joe on his son. It looks like they are trying to intimidate him via his family and now more people know who he is.

3. I have that, saw that cover. I liked that.
Thought I read or heard that the company that does New Times combined with another company, more conservative.

Steve Benson does a lot with a very solid strong image of Gov Janet Napolitano. I love Benson!!
