Well, looks like Ethan pissed it away.
I'm sad for Diane tonight(and we have to make damn sure they don't blame it on HER)but Ethan's personality will always make him unelectable outside of that little district in Anchorage where they hived off half the Dems in the city.

1. Ethan was terrible.
As much as I love Diane, and you know I do, I couldn't even bring myself to volunteer for the campaign once Ethan was the nominee. He's so dismissive of her and all of us who have worked so hard for her since 2006, even at the election night party last night. I was talking with another one of Diane's old supporters and another volunteer at McAdams headquarters a week or so ago, and both of them were questioning why the Democrats keep letting him run when he's such a terrible candidate.

Maybe this time he'll get the message, but I'm afraid he may have done irreparable harm to Diane's chances for any future run. I really wish she had taken on Don Young this year instead of Harry, but she did the gracious thing and didn't run against him in the primary.

2. Diane ran a great campaign this year, but she probably should have sat this cycle out.
It was always going to be a tough year for any Dem candidate.

This year, she and the rest of the party were dragged down by Ethan's arrogance and sense of entitlement. We should have nominated Hollis French.

Or else, the party SHOULD have focused on trying to take back the Legislature, rather than once again falling in to the trap of thinking "the governorship is ALL that matters".

Now, the party faces another cycle of starting over from just about nothing.

3. I certainly agree with your last statement.
I was very impressed by Scott McAdams, though, so hopefully we'll be seeing him rise in the future. I think the party would do well to nurture these "new" people. In a lot of ways, Scott was the "anti-Ethan" with whom ordinary people could identify in a way that they never could with Berkowitz. I'm so done with him -- after 2008 when he stole what should have been Diane's and after the way he brought her down this time. It's very sad.

4. Diane was the "Invisible Girl"
She was horribly underused and ignored...a few years ago (by her lonesome) she managed to get 40 per cent of the vote against political powerhouse Don Young! I can't believe that I did not see or hear one spot using her. They treated her like the idiot child they keep hidden in a backroom...

so sad...

5. It's really horrible the way the Democratic Party here has treated
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 01:35 PM by Blue_In_AK
Diane, and Ethan has been one of the worst. I will never forgive him for challenging her in the primary in 2008, and now he's probably sunk her political career forever. I really, really don't like that guy, and I don't care who knows it. It killed me to have to vote for him this year just so I could vote for Diane. In 2008 I wrote her in for US House as a protest vote.

6. Guess what? Ethan, The Legend In His Own Mind, LOST DOWNTOWN JUNEAU!

(for those "Outside" readers...Democratic candidates NEVER, EVER, EVER lose Downtown Juneau. It would be like McCain/Palin carrying Chicago in 2008).

Why did anybody think it was a good idea to nominate this schmuck?
