16. VP Debate

It seemed to me that the VP was on the defense for nearly the entire debate. Edwards did a great job of nailing Cheney on point after point. It was interesting to see Cheney wringing his hands while he was under the gun. But give Cheney some credit for his "studied nonchalance." He can lie with a straight face better than anybody I've ever seen. If I had a used car lot he'd be the guy I'd want to hire as a salesman.

Shortly after the debate was over I checked the MSNBC web-site feedback poll. The voting was 70% for Edwards, and 30% Cheney. That matched the Kerry/Bush debate results. Yet, the talking heads on MSNBC were crowing about Edwards being soundly trounced by Cheney. Do you suppose that Republican advertising money spent on MSNBC has anything to do with that?

It took only about thirty minutes for DU'ers to ferret out the truth that Cheney had met Edwards on more than one occasion. His most devastating dig at Edwards the entire evening turns out to be a bold-faced lie! By tomorrow morning, the Truth Squad will be able to parse the rest of his performance and we'll know that the Administration simply can't tell the truth.
