My latest letter to the editor, re: Ann Coulter

The local paper has a column every Sunday in which they print excerpts from various columnists' recent works. Ann Coulter shows up in there sometimes. This is my response...

Ann Coulter has got to be the biggest right-wing idiot in all America, and your paper does itself no favors by publishing even snippets of her work.

Her latest screed is the straw that broke this camel's back. Dump her quick.

Ms. Coulter writes, "Whoever forged these documents should not only be criminally prosecuted, but should also have his driver's license taken away for the stupidity of using Microsoft Word to forge 1971 documents."

Jim writes, whether they were forged or not, they were produced on a typewriter. Specifically, they were written on an IBM Executive Model D, which has proportional spacing, the exact typeface used in the memo, and the little superscripted "th" character everyone's so worried about. Look at the lowercase e in the memos--it's a bit higher than the rest of the characters in the memo. Word processors don't do this, but well-used typewriters do.

We liberals don't think Bush should lose the election because of his National Guard record. We think he should lose the election because he likes to start wars based on fabricated evidence and because his job-creation record is worse than Herbert Hoover's.
