Under GOP plan, USED food is TAX FREE
In the South Carolina Senate race, Jim DeMint has been desperate to defend his 23 percent national sales tax.

Now his supporters are boasting that the 23 percent sales tax doesn't apply to used goods.

I for one feel a whole lot better now.

So if you want to by used cars, used homes, used clothes - you won't pay the 23 percent.

If you want to shop at flea markets or on eBay - you won't pay the 23 percent.

But why stop there? Why not boast that the 23 percent doesn't apply to used food as well?

2. Well, I buy only used clothing and cars...
(as long as it's in good/repairable/new shape)

Food really should be excluded as a taxable item.

3. 23% sounds like a regressive tax to me...
...people who earn under $50,000 per year pay only 10% now. This is another big Bush ripe-off of the middle and working classes Americans.

4. I am sure it doesn't apply to business purchases either-big exemption
I haven't studied all the details but I would bet most people with an established business will be able to exclude all of their purchases as being part of the business, even if the purchases end up being used at home or for both business and personal like an expensive new vehicle. But average wage earners and retirees will be relegated to scrounging around at rummage sales and flea markets and used car lots to get an exemption!
