What will you do? If Bush wins and begins to draft young people for his
foreign conquests, will you allow yourself to be drafted and go, or bail out on this country and head to Europe (Canada won't be an option this time I hear). If you have kids of draft age, will you move them out of the country or allow Bush to use them as cannon fodder?

1. I'm probably a little too old
But if they want to draft me, I will not serve, period.

And if College Republicans get drafted and sent off to the front lines, I'll say "let them eat cake".

2. I'll protest
I'm too old to be drafted and I don't have any kids or loved ones of draft age.

3. I'm a navy med service reservist and...
If you or your child absolutely refuses to enlist in the army - a possible safe avenue if you are interested in the medical field is to get certified as a lpn (sort of a limited duty nurse) its about a year of community college classes i believe. then enlist in the naval reserve as an hm (hospital corpman). at least you can do your service obligation, maybe start a career out of it, and be on the side of the military that saves life, instead of takes it.

but it sucks to be forced into a situation where you have to make that sort of life direction decision rather quickly, so lets hope it doesn't even come to this!

6. I'm Too Old - I Hope
but they did call up a 67 year old reservist, so who knows?

No way would I fight in the PNAC Crusade. No way no how.

7. here's hoping it doesn't come to that
if it does, hubby and I are probably looking at jail. we're both 22, committed pacifists but unfortunately atheists so we wouldn't be believed, and I highly doubt we have the skills to legally emigrate anywhere (I've already checked Canada and Britain's scoring thing).

I guess if it really came down to it, I could serve in some capacity that doesn't require me to hurt anyone. I hate the idea that I'd just be freeing up someone else to do it, but I guess I'm already enabling this crap just by paying taxes, so...it's better than 20 years in prison.

10. as a Canadian, I'll join the growing movement to let Americans seek refuge
There's a national organization already in place. At a meeting on Monday night, a young West Texas soldier who is applying for asylum here gave a speech. The room was packed! There were teenagers, and people who are old enough to have been in the draft the first time. Interestingly, the political conditions here are very similar to what happened in the late 60s and early 70s, when pressure from the Canadian public led to the minority Liberal government caving in and allowing US draft resisters entry. The churches, unions, and political parties are again in a position to apply pressure. Don't count us out as an option -- there are people here working very hard to make it one. And this time, even more of them have got money and are in positions of influence. Public opinion is more sympathetic than it was in the Vietnam era, too.
