Somebody Tell Me Are We Really Trying To Win This????
First we throw softballs at the convention so as not to appear too disrespectful of the Presidency. Then the news media basically laughs at us and says maybe we were too easy as the Republicans blast us at their convention.

We agree basically on the debates not to debate even though this is supposed to be one of Kerry's strong points.

No rebuttals.
Bush and Kerry unable to respond to each other.
The moderator asks a question the individual answers it then ask the other individual a question.

Now the news media is saying the debates are critical for Kerry, he has to be aggressive but not in a way to disrespect the Presidency, he must appear to be nice.

What the hell, be nice!!!!

If we want to win, we have to pull out all of the stops and attack, attack and attack.

1. Heh!
Now the news media is saying the debates are critical for Kerry, he has to be aggressive but not in a way to disrespect the Presidency, he must appear to be nice.

Didn't they say the same thing about the DNC? That the Democrats had to appear nice not to scare anyone off? Then what did they do? They dragged Zell's old corpse out on the stage for a lil' Hell and brimstone.

If Kerry plays it nice, they'll say he's soft.

If he plays it aggresive, they'll say he's desperate because of Bush's calm pose of leadership....

2. I agree with you about the convention
in retrospect, it wasn't what it should've been. I think that was because advisers like Shrum, who has a teribble track record, had too much sway.

But that's water under the bridge now. I'm optimistic about the debates, though.

3. It's all about the middle
The question has been 'after people are disgusted with Bush, how do you get them to Kerry?' Going/staying negative on Bush doesn't get this done.

The Bush admin is going to pull out all stops next month with terror warnings, etc. Going to be crazy.

4. You know Kurt you are right about that. People you talk to, hear about,
nobody is excited about this President nor do they believe in what he is doing. However, good question, need to give them a reason to move over to Kerry & vote. This is what I don't understand as it is a given, these voters want somewhere to go besides vote for Bush and we are not getting it done. Of course we aren't getting any help with the media either.

5. Nonsense
The media loves to portray Dems as the sniping amongst the ranks party. True, we allow for dissent and other points of view (unlike U.S. Steel, aka the Republican Party). But, in this election, that old stand-by does not hold water. We have a purpose that transcends petty arguments of campaign strategy or who is to blame.

Sure, there is discouragement as the Rove machine kicks it into high gear (do they know any other gear?), and makes the election about Kerry wind-surfing and getting the news division of a broadcast network in a 'gotcha' moment, as opposed to the election that will determine the course of nations for decades to come.

But we know the truth. The promise of democracy, that has been corrupted by corporations and their media bullhorns for over twenty years, is about to be redeemed. Not a moment to soon, either. Imagine how the planet would join together if an alien threatened Earth. Well, fellow Dems, the aliens have infested all three branches of government. You know what to do.
