How many republicans are staying home on Nov. 2?
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 04:50 PM by madaboutharry
I had an interesting conversation with my gardener today. (Black thumb here, all plant life cowers when they see me). She told me that many of her clients who are republicans have told her they are not voting for Bush. They are telling her that they are staying home on election day. This is good news in a "swing" state. Could it be that a lot of republicans can't take anymore of Bush?

1. I think CBS should run a special double-run showing of
The Passion of the Christ on election day. Maybe the RWers will be so passionately glued to their seats they'll forget to vote altogether.

It could happen!

4. i guess if they came out that tuesday morning and found
air let out of their cars' tires, they might not get to the polls.

i can't imagine someone doing that, but i've known crazier things to happen.

5. It could be significant
I was thinking especially independents that normally vote republican for President. I think these will be the most demoralized.

6. Quite a few, I think!
Some will stay home.

Some who are angry will vote Libertarian or Constitution Party.

7. my RW boss told me he will probably vote Dem
I was floored. I don't know if he is just blowing smoke up my ass 'cause I wear my J/E buttons and anti-bush buttons every day. But we did get into a good political discussion and I was able to point out major differences between Kerry and Bush.

I'll never know how he votes though. He is a known liar so even if he does vote bush he'll tell me he voted Kerry.

8. I know a lot of ReThugs, and...

They'd rather stay home than vote Kerry. I know that we're going to turn out in FORCE, so I'm optimistic about the future :)

10. Not enough I'm sure but the more the merrier
Remember every single member of the House is also up for election and if enough Republicans just stay home we have a chance of regaining the House. Keep discouraging them. tell them it is okay if they don't like Kerry and won't vote for him, just stay home and ride this one out. Then they don't have to feel guilty for putting the idiot back into power.

15. Don't do it then.....This is for big stakes and apparently you
aren't up to it. You want to encourage republicans to vote then don't fret about what becomes of our country.

16. I worry about our country
When half the elligible voters don't bother to vote to begin with. Actively working to make that number even smaller for mere political gain is, as I said, disgusting.

I've encouraged people with opposing political views to mine to vote in the past, and will continue to do so in the future--voting just isn't a right, it's a responsibility.

13. 3 people I know
are right wing nutjobs. Tough guys that say we should just nuke the whole middle east. All of these people thank god have never voted before and won't be voting in this election. They'd rather sit back and bitch about things than exercising their right to vote I guess.

23. I'd take it with a grain of salt.
There's a big difference between statying home and not voting for Bush. I'm sure there are quite a few republicans who are inclined not to vote for Bush, but with other state and local races on the ballot, they'll probably not actually stay home -- and once they get in the voting booth, they'll probably just say, "What the hell," and vote for Bush anyway.

We can't count on Republicans staying home.
