Rasmussen poll on Media Bias. Is CNN pro-Kerry?
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Broadcast%20Bias.htm

<edit>

Bias is clearly in the eye of the beholder and there is a very strong partisan tint to all the data. Fifty-four percent (54%) of all Kerry voters believe that Fox News is trying to help elect Bush. At least 50% of Kerry voters believe that each of the other four news sources are unbiased.

At the other end of the spectrum, 60% of Bush voters believe Fox News is unbiased. Seventy percent (70%) of Bush voters believe that CBS is trying to help Kerry. Between 48% and 55% believe the same is true about CNN, ABC, and NBC.

Twenty-one percent (21%) of Kerry voters believe CNN is biased to help Bush. That may shock conservatives who used to routinely dismiss CNN as the "Clinton News Network."

At the same time, those who dismiss Fox as propaganda may be shocked that the other networks are viewed by voters in essentially the same light.

6. But it also says that only 54% Kerry voters believe Fox News is trying
to help Bush.

Of course, not everyone has cable, and not everyone with cable watches cable news.

3. Exhibit A
There was a study that showed that Fox News viewers were much more likely to get basic facts wrong (i.e. we have found WMD in Iraq). I believe it was 70-75 percent.

The Repugs like to say NPR is very left leaning (which it isn't). NPR listeners were only 20 percent wrong.

4. It's undeniable
that the best interests of the media's parent corporations lie in a Bush victory. Whether or not they're actively pursuing that goal, corporate control of the media has caused a really frightening shift in the approach to the news. Profit has replaced truth as the primary concern, and we're seeing the results.

It's interesting that both sides feel the media is biased against us. I think that may have something to do with the underdog mythos that we have in America. Both sides want to feel that we're the oppressed defenders of the truth and justice, fighting valiantly against unsurmountable odds.

The only difference is, WE actually ARE the defenders of truth and justice, and the Repugs are the defenders of greed and power.

5. If CNN is pro-Kerry
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 02:25 PM by ocelot
they are being very subtle about it. I guess they are trying to conceal that bias by continuing to employ people like Tucker Carlson and Wolf Blitzer and Bob Novakula and Bil Hemmorhoid and Carol Lin and Judy Woodruff and Paula Zahn and by pretending to be dismissive and contemptuous of all pro-Kerry interviewees and by running news crawls with polls showing Bush ahead by huge margins. This just shows how incredibly crafty and clever they are in trying to hide their pro-Kerry bias. Even we at DU can't find it.
