Sotomayor's confirmation is comparable to John Roberts, as each was the first Supreme Court Justice nominee by each President.

2. And what do you think will happen if President Obama picks a well known liberal next time?

The Republicans will probably threaten a filibuster unless President Obama picks someone "safe".

Well, we could always threaten to use the so-called nuclear option!

Just move for an up and down majority vote.

4. Maybe President Obama will be smart enough to again nominate
someone, who although liberal, would make it hard to defeat, due to the contituency that person would represent. Could happen you know.

3. Except Roberts was an right-wing appointment and Sotomayor is considered a moderate in comparison

6. No, Roberts was first.
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Tuesday chose as his first Supreme Court nominee U.S. Circuit Judge John Roberts Jr., a conservative whose selection pleased Republicans and prompted Democrats to vow a thorough review in the Senate."

7. So the fuck what? Only 4 dems voted for alito. Ginsburg was confirmed 96-3
and and Breyer was confirmed by 87 to 9. This is not some big deal- though trust you to try and make it look like it. lame, lame, lamer.

9. Her Confirmation is a remarkable acheivement...
And though I am seeking to optimize today with the help of DUers, I still have room in my own personal drama to recognize the amazing accomplishment of this woman.
