A sure fire way to shut down the organized disruptors at D town halls
Get yourself in front of them, face to face, and shout them down. Any time he/she is disrupting/shouting, shout right back. The key is to have your face right in theirs and to respond to their shouts. Doesn't matter much what you yell back, as long as you are louder than the instigator. You have to be right in front of them, facing them, back to stage. If some spit flies off your mouth while you are shouting, you can yell you're sorry.

I was in a group that was instructed to do something similar to this with some RW protesters who were trying to inflitrate a march in Washington. Worked like a charm.

6. Yeah, they don't think twice about killing doctors or blowing up clinics.
Just like The Family, they can do whatever they want, because their god tells them it's okay.

11. Yes, we should put it all on the line.
I say if they make threats, we dare them to carry them out, and call them cowards if they don't.

They are literally trying to destroy democracy, so I say we force them to show their true colors. I'll put my life on the line.

I'll stand screaming in the fucker's face, and when he raises his fist, I'll say "GO AHEAD!!! DO IT, CHICKENHAWK!!! I DON'T THINK YOU'VE GOT THE GUTS!!!"

Force them out, and once the country sees how they are, they'll scurry like cockroaches back to their holes.

3. I fear "escalation" I predict people will be hurt.
This could get very ugly, fast. But I , for one, see no other option.

9. Under no circumstances should we back down.
Giving in to them means they win.

I, for one, don't intend to give in. Not even with a gun pointed in my face.

In fact, if they want to escalate to violence, I hit back.

They're being bullies. The only way to stop them is to stand up to them. If they start screaming, scream back. If they make threats, threaten back. If they escalate to violence, always escalate to a step higher than they would go.

I have the feeling the only way they'll back down is if we knock out some of their teeth, so let's do it.

Never back down. Never.

5. Doesn't that just make it nothing but a yellfest? I mean, the crazies won't
back down.

Wild animals get brought down with tranquilizer guns. Maybe more vets should come to the town hall meetings.

10. they most certainly will back down
The target of your yelling is the crazy and you make this clear by placing your face directly in front of their face. This is going to make the crazy so uncomfortable he/she will back down. Guaranteed.

16. Gristy, you are falling for their bait.. it is a two fer.. disrupt democracy..
and or get someone on the other side that they start yelling and screaming at the "old" people, or people holding bibles.

Card them, so bussed in's cannot disrupt/, start taking pictures of them when they do they break outs,.. Things will calm down quickly when they realize that they are going to be held accountable on a national stage

26. Yeah, and post the RW Disruption Rules prominently so that it's clear
everyone understands what's happening in the room. Someone else suggested passing them out to everyone beforehand. I guess good people seated next to these asshats can decide how to best distract the yellers themselves. Maybe pokes with safety pins?

7. worst idea ever
Their goal: to scream so much that dialog can't happen
Your solution: further escalate the screaming to ensure dialog can't happen

12. My goal is to make the RW crazy so uncomfortable that they leave or take a swing at me
No one can tolerate being personally yelled at for long.

17. Why isn't your goal to allow the discussion to occur?
If you create a scene like that, all that will be in the media is a discussion of the tactics the RW is using, and the disruption. Nothing in the media will focus on the health care bill itself.

You may as well be on their side, if that's the tactics you are using - because it's part of achieving THEIR goal.

21. I already did in another thread.
"One thing they could do is use an overhead and the equivalent of closed captioning typed out on the screen, so the conversation can continue even if the noise volume is too high to hear. This would also help people who are deaf or hard of hearing in normal situations - it's added value with or without disruptions."

If they are removing volume/hearing as an option for communication, switch to another form. Keep putting the information out there. Let them feel stupid screaming while someone on the projection screen is talking intelligently or movingly. Let that contrast be part of the story the youtube videos tell.

19. I disagree with you here.. there is no discussion allowed by the bussed in's
separate them out, and let the people of the voting area the town hall is held in speak and attend..everyone else.. outside..you have no buisness there anyway.. this is state voters and their representatives stuff..

Oh and be sure you take a LOT of photos of the people doing that.. we can track them and expose them

13. The only way is to shame them..
Of course that's easier said than done. MSNBC is doing a great job, but their reach still isn't deep enough.

Stooping to their level is not the way to handle them. Ditto for violence. We need to get creative.

These are the most anti-American people I've ever seen, let's use that fact to our advantage.

20. I don't know, has anyone tried to call one of them "Anti-American" yet?
That is the ultimate insult for the former Bush super-patriots, and it's 100% true. They're actively and conciously stiffling Democracy at these town hall meetings.

I bet they'd go ballistic.

23. Engage and shame....
We need to stand up and begin singing Woody's "This Land is Your Land" They'll have no choice but to join in.... Make sure you know the really "subversive" lyrics.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

"Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared."

by Don Briggs
Share this on Twitter - Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared. Mon Aug 03, 2009 at 10:50:13 PM PDT
The Democratic Alliance of Northwest Indiana (DANI ) hosted a meeting with Rep. Pete Visclosky (D, IN-01), on Monday, Aug. 3, 6:30 PM. We invited the public and their written questions. It seems good to share with the Daily Kos readership some lessons we learned.

Bottom line:
• We had an orderly and productive meeting.
• No one stood up, shouted out and sat down.
• At no point was our Congressman or audience rattled.
• DANI accomplished its objective. We provided the public an opportunity to question our Congressman about Health Care and Clean Energy.
• Tea Baggers came out in force, but they failed to disrupt the meeting.
• Local reporters attended.

Lessons learned follow below the fold.
