How to tell someone they sound RACIST

This month race has been the four letter word no one wants to talk about. For me, a racist is like porno, I know it when I see it. The birthers are RACIST! People who make a big to-do about Sotomoyer's comment to encourage students to pursue their aspirations are RACISTS!

lindsay graham is not a racist, he just have helluva lot of prejudices. Hell his girl(boy)friend might be a minority. jeff sessions is a RACIST!!!!

I know most of us are over the Gates and crowley episode, but as President Obama said, this should be a teachable moment. Found this video in the Afrospear and wanted to post it on here.

Let's stop giving racists a pass on their racist language and call them out on it. We can't change what's in their hearts, but we can definitely muzzle their asses.

I have been in arguments with my friends at work (we are really good friends) about the Gates issue and other issues. But the possitive I see is that I am exposing them to a view that they may not have considered.

As for DU there is always going to be arguments over important topics and mundane topics. I just roll with the flow....

2. Once you start doing it you'd be surprised how easy it is

There are lots of way so calling out racists. One way which is polite is when a racist makes a racist comment just say, "I don't have any problem with (insert race or ethnicity here). And saying things like, "I don't feel that way about (insert race or ethnicity here). Or "In may experience that hasn't happened at all."

I'm sure you get my drift. What happens is that person will realize that he/she can't just spout off their bigotry to everyone, and even though they will still be bigots and racists, they'll at least be less willing to announce it to the world. Let them go back into the closet. Not all things need to be brought out.

I have tried to tell them what they say is wrong, and it simply goes over their thick skulls. Remember, most of these people are just parroting what they hear from other racists. They never really thought about what they said, they just think it sounds cool, and are going to go with the rest of the people who are "like them."
What some of them need is a harsh sense of reality. Maybe one or two of them get a knuckle sandwich from me... A white guy.
If I don't want to get violent, I just tell them the story of how a black man saved my ass on Rockaway Beach, when I was a kid, and got caught in the undertow. Then I ask them if they would say the same thing if it happened to them.

I'm really glad people are watching this video--I found it at http://www.illdoctrine.com, and that guy's blog is one to get lost in. What he says is spot on: in this argument, rhetoric is important. You can't just call someone a bigot without proof--and words aren't proof enough. What we can do is call them out for saying stupid shit.

By the way, being a militant black woman doesn't preclude marrying a small town white boy. ;-)

.... that was my point .... what a wonderful country we live in where we can date and marry whom we do and not lose our self identity .... you and I are simmilar in age and I remember a time when, if someone dated outside of their ethnicity, they were PERCEIVED as selling out. I think a lot of folks felt they had to play a role just to get by, had to give up who they were.

And you're, of course, correct. Being a militant black woman doesn't preclude marrying a small town white boy any more than being a southern white woman precludes my dating ... well ... anyone. Who knows, maybe one day I'll take a leap and date one of those small town white boys myself! lol ;)

I really have to laugh when I hear people say "I know one when I see one".

Because the only logical reply to that is, "It takes one to know one"

Take a moment to consider that.

It's like when homosexuals can "recognize" each other on the street without a word passing between them.

Or like when people who are happy to spend a lifetime of miserable arguing with each other can pick each other out of a crowd of hundreds of people.

I have anxiety disorders and I can tell right off if someone else does too. Yeah...it takes one to know one. So someone tell me how a person can recognize a racist unless they're harboring the same basic thoughts...


People who run around screeching "racism" at everything that moves are just as damaging to REAL racism as the PETA people are to the animal rights movement.

And just because someone SOUNDS "racist" that doesn't mean he is. Maybe you're just judging what the person said through your own distorted filters...it happens.
