Please don't tell Hillary. Please tell your own government not to walk out of environmental initiatives. It's not her fault your government doesn't want to take responsibility like other nations.

Especially as in "developing", it's easier for such nations to build from the ground up with cleaner resources. Developed nations have to spend more to upgrade.

36. NYT - Notes Tension Between Hillary and India’s environment minister on Climate Change
The irony, of course, is that India's "environment minister is opposing limits on India's emission of greenhouse gasses. Perhaps he was on loan from the Bush administration?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/20/world/asia/20diplo.html?_r=1&hp

###

India served notice on Sunday that it remains opposed to legally binding targets to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, digging in its heels against the United States as the Obama administration begins marshaling support for a new global agreement on climate change.

India voiced its rejection of the American position in an awkwardly public forum: during a visit by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to an energy-efficient office building in this city on the outskirts of New Delhi that was supposed to celebrate cooperation between India and the United States on climate policy.

39. Disconnect of communcation between their government and their citizens, perhaps?
That or it's unmitigated arrogance. I don't know and I don't want to get into conjecture too much*, but there is an obvious irony - if nothing else - afoot.

Maybe more a double standard than any irony... okay for them to fart as much as they want but the moment the US has a stomach growl, oh that's just beyond redemption. :eyes: Same goes for any country not willing to do its part, while breaking records each year yet only blaming the US for "global warming". No more B.S. and no more arrogance.

* e.g. the "Let's hate america until we need them" mentality, which sadly does exist.

44. I don't think it is hate America
I think it is poor communication - the fact is, the Bali agreement did NOT require developing nations to accept caps based on current levels. This would permanently keep them from developing. Our usage per capita, as the article says, is far higher than theirs. Maybe HRC needs to get some advice from John Kerry and others who have been active in past environmental conferences. He has been able to get them to engage and has interacted positively with them. (Here is a hearing on the situation with China which speaks of the same issue - http://foreign.senate.gov/hearings/2009/hrg090604a.html )

I think many of their people see the government on their side here.

43. This is not good
Since before Bali, people have been using language that argues that both developing and developed countries need to work on limiting their future use of carbon, but they can't be treated the same way. She is not helping there. I really can't believe she compared an energy efficient building to the Taj Mahal.
