17. I am in agreement with you
I keep going back to the fact that it has been 6 months and everything cannot be done in 6 months. If we want these laws changed we want them changed correctly the first time, we don't want flawed laws so asshole Repugs can come back and take away rights.

It boggles my mind, I do understand everyone is frustated but everyone's anger should be directed towards the Republican congress under Clinton that denied tax paying gay Americans rights. Then there was 8 years of Repug rule that tried to deny even more rights, so that is at a minimum of 12 years and everyone expects him to fix everything in 6 months. It's just not realistic....

I would be comfortable with giving him a year on DOMA and for DADT with this caveat.

DADT - For all of the soldiars that put in their time in the military and then were kicked out for being gay, their retirement benefits should be reinstated with back pay.

26. I think the critics are being incredibly shortsighted.....
For example, while DoJ issues the ill advised Doma legal brief, Obama gives same sex couples working within the US Goverment full benefits. So while everyone went crazy about right to marry, Obama gave those SAME COUPLES (who happen to work within the US government FULL BENEFITS.) So he sets precedent. If a same sex couple working within the US Government (Federal) gets benefits then it is hard to deny a same sex couple in say, Ohio (State) the same benefits under federal anti discrimination laws.

In other words, Obama has done more to benefit the same sex couple cause in the last five months (MONEY!) then any President... well.... EVER!

86. Well, I'll tell you what I am...
Straight male. Fully supportive of Gay civil rights. Have voted consistently for Democrats and liberals my entire life. Voted against the DOMA-like anti-gay marriage initiative in Florida which passed with over 60% of the vote. I am a pragmatic person. I do not expect Obama to be able to quickly solve the problem. In fact, considering what is currently on his plate I think any progress he can make is a god send in the short term. HOWEVER, I would expect that if he becomes a two term President he will make sweeping changes to policy by the end of his term. Like I said however, it's a shame that he's the most gay friendly President ever and I believe people are overreacting to something that doesn't happen overnight. The reality is that even in California voters backed a gay marriage ban with a super majority. California!

13. KO again is proving to be a friggin' clueless STOOGE
Joe Salmonese (Human Rights Campaign) is trying to say that there have been some great changes made. Keith is trying to get Salmonese to throw Obama under the bus, but it was correctly stated that Congress needs to pass legislation to overturn DOMA. Keith got it wrong about how Obama is somehow responsible for the the DOMA brief from the DOJ.

Keith seemed upset he didn't get Salmonese to throw Obama under the bus.

Of course, NOTHING was mentioned by Olbermann about how the Obama administration had been working on this for MONTHS... at a time when Olbermann was in a whinefest with Bill Maher that Obama hadn't done anything in the five months (also not mentioned)...

When Keith asked "I'm missing something. What am I missing?" to Richard Wolfe, I turned the shit off.

16. This is a great case of overzealous defense of Obama
I saw nothing of the sort in the same segment. It was a fairly balanced segment that analyzed the move, the political ramifications, the possible motivations, etc.

I did not see Keith looking upset that he did not get someone to take an extra dig on Obama. That is your perception.

And look at the language of this post:
stooge, throw under bus, he "seems upset" (there is your armchair psychoanalysis right there), whinefest, I turned the shit off.

Seriously...if anyone is throwing anyone under the bus and smearing anyone, it is you.

But continue on with the latest DU lynching of a leftie media figure....it has become so common it is comical. It lost it's impact months ago...about the time you all were calling Turley every name under the sun.

I don't see Olbermann as the journalist he's trying to be, Edward R. Murrow. He's never going to attain that level of journalism.

I looked for the transcript...it's not available yet. Keith wanted blood. He got shit.

64. And you're a Kool-Aid drinking idiot
Obama is NOT perfect, he's a human being who makes bad decisions, just like everyone else. People like Keith and Rachel aren't there to say, "Golly gee, isn't our new President perfect?" They report on the issues, and when Obama screws up (as he does now and again), they're going to say so.

Expecting anything else is expecting MSNBC to be Fox News for the Left.

If you disagree with what they're saying at MSNBC, that's a valid opinion. Calling someone like Keith Olbermann a right-winger is nothing short of delusional.

From the day Obama was elected, Olbermann said that he would take Obama to task if/when he felt the need to do so. Unlike Obama, Keith Olbermann has actually lived up to at least ONE of the promises he made in 2008.

79. No. Actually Olbermann was pretty good when attacking Republicans
It's when he thinks that Obama has had enough time to change the World's Wose in less than five months that I have a real problem with him.

If it was constructive criticism (like what Stewart does, for instance), then I have zero problems with it. I know Obama isn't perfect and I have some problems with some of his actions so far. But to say he hasn't done enough in five months is just plain sloppy whining.

I guess I should like EVERYTHING Olbermann says because he plays a Democrat on TV... even when he sounds like a Teabagger...

45. Oh, give me a friggin' break, people.
Olbermann is doing his JOB...which is to be a WATCHDOG on power, not a CHEERLEADER.

The rules didn't change just because now it's our guy in there instead of theirs. He said they weren't going to. Seems some people weren't listening when he was asked several times last year "What are you going to do if a Dem wins?" and he said "The same as I have been doing."

He hasn't changed. And I don't think what he's said so far in criticism is way out of proportion to the situation at hand. He didn't say "Obama sucks, he hasn't done shit, let's pull him now." He simply pointed out the discrepancies--thus far--between what Obama said he would do and what he has actually done. Again, SO FAR. That's ALL. And for that, some people want to throw him under the bus.

And the irony of all this? His enemies STILL think he's an uncritical Obama-worshiper.

So he can't win for losing.

It's pretty sad to see all the people here who wanted and expected KO to be a cheerleader for "our side" rather than a person devoted to reporting the truth as he sees it.

David Shuster had this same problem once, from the other end. He used to work at Fox during the Clinton administration, and thought it was great because he got to be critical of the president. Then there was a new president, and suddenly he wasn't supposed to be critical anymore. He was supposed to shut up and sing in the choir of praise. He quit and went to MSNBC.

I don't know what some people want of people like these, and Rachel, and Ed. They're not gonna agree with you all the time. Sometimes they will not care about what you care about and will care too much about what you don't think is a big deal. The fact that they don't reflect your pure ideology back at you doesn't make them traitors, or stooges, or corporate whores. It just makes them PEOPLE, trying to do the best job they can.

52. He had a polite interview with the head of the HRC, who was being overly diplomatic
and then he asked Richard Wolffe about the DOJ writing a rather over the top brief one day in DEFENSE of DOMA and then Obama, on the other hand reiterating his desire to GET RID of DOMA a few days later.

Wolffe pointed out the legal and political differences and ramifications of the two events and concluded by saying that although this WH is cautious about treading into what they perceive as hot button cultural issues right off the bat, Obama is sensitive to the argument that he be held to his campaign promises. Wolffe says this is also a WH that actually listens and responds to public pressure. Wolffe concluded by saying the way progress will be made is if people keep holding the administration accountable on these issues.

I never thought I would see the day that Keith, Rachel, and Bill would be thrown under the bus. Bizarro Land indeed.

49. Okay, I just watched it, and I really didn't get that he was trying
to make his guest say anything in particular. He was asking questions, which is what you do when you interview someone. But again, I did not get that he was trying to manipulate the guy.

56. Even though it was always said in a joking and hypothetical manner
We all knew Pres. Obama would be held to higher (impossible?) standards compared to any other president in the history of this country. Frankly, I'm surprised they waited even 5 months before going on the attack. KO, who didn't even vote. What a joke!

65. Well, at least he won't be feeling any buyer's remorse
Unlike people like me, who voted AND volunteered, only to see Bush policies continued and watered-down "bipartisan compromises" that benefit big business.

I didn't vote for a personality to worship, I voted for change. But there seems to be a lot of business as usual in Washington, where the "D.C." stands for "don't care". :(

him to work miracles. This man is trying to keep us safe, give us healthcare which will BANKRUPT ALL OF US (the haters and lovers of President Obama) in the next 5 or so years if healthcare reform isn't passed, and all a lot of us do is whine, whine, whine every chance we get if our personal pet agenda isn't addressed fast enough.
