Out lesbian could be named U.S. Marshal

Sharon Lubinski, assistant chief of the Minneapolis Police Department, could become the first openly lesbian U.S. Marshal, according to a report in the Minnesota Independent.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar recommended to President Obama that Lubinski be charged with protecting the United States District Court of Minnesota due to her “strength of leadership abilities and the respect she commands from people at every level of law enforcement and in the larger community.”

Lubinski, having served in law enforcement for more than 30 years, is currently one of the highest-ranking openly lesbian law enforcement officials in the country. If named and confirmed by the Senate, she would become just the 13th female U.S. Marshal in history. Lubinski would also be among the more than 60 openly LGBT appointments by the Obama Administration.
