37. More infos about the church
Thank you! It had been a ruin after WWII and the destruction of the city, and only some years ago it finally got rebuild. People all over the world collected money for it, and it became a sign for peace. It was a big puzzle/jigsaw! Because they tried to use as many old stones as possible, and to put them back where they had belonged to. When looking at it from the outside, you'll still see the old black stones and the white new stones. Over time though the white ones also will become black and then you can't tell the difference anymore (it is made from sandstone).

If you want to see more pictures of it, google for "Church of our Lady" or the German term "Frauenkirche".

11. I just got back from a trip to France and Germany, and it was wonderful to see the references
to President Obama. I saw an Obama '08 bumper sticker on a car and several people wearing Obama t-shirts.

I was getting directions from a French woman who spoke no English (and I speak no French) to a building down the street. She was gesturing directions and then gave me a description: "white house...like Obama in the White House," with a big smile. So Cool.

Went to a birthday party in Germany and one of the attendees was a young girl who had just graduated from high school. I asked her what her plans were, and she was going to do an internship to work with the disadvantaged later in the summer. "I want to do the work like President Obama did," she said. Inspiring youth around the globe, that's our President. :D

14. The right-wingers must really hate the fact that other nations like us again.
The pukes remind me of Caligula: "Let them hate me, so long as they fear me..."

Caligula, an incompetant, spoiled, idiotic, quite possibly mad child of privilege with a gigantic sense of entitlement and no discernible talent for governing. Yep, sounds a lot like the pukes...

35. Ooch means "auch" in Saxonian language
Please don't feel bad for not knowing the word "ooch". Maybe you'll understand it when I tell you it is actually spelled "auch". "Auch" means "too".

Dresden is the capital of Saxony, and we speak a very weird dialect over here. One even not all Germans can understand. At the beginning of the sign it says "Nu nu", which means "Yes yes" and then "yes we can - in Dresden, too!"

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask! I am always happy to help. It is so great president Obama came over here. That has never happened before, and we feel very honored.

22. Stunning images, Jackeens. Have never seen anything like them
coming from a visit by a President. Clearly he has a gift for communicating and reaching out psychologically to others, to be able to go completely beyond his own ego to meet others openly without a need to flex his job-related national muscles.

Fascinating. We've had no leader remotely like him.

33. it's so nice to have the world like us again
It's very sweet that, despite all those Bush years, people in other countries wanted to like America again, and were just waiting for the opportunity to be able to do so.

It reminds me a little bit of all those incredibly touching vigils that took place all over the world after September 11. We are so lucky, here in the United States, to have goodwill from the rest of the world as the default option. I hope that we can start to deserve it again--I think we will, now.

34. That is me!
Squee! A friend just gave me the link to this forum - that is me on picture number 8, with the little Obama figure!

Hello to everybody! I live in Dresden and I felt very honored about president Obama visiting us. Even though it was not official but rather private. And even though the whole area where he was in had to be closed down for security measures. I'm sure a lot of us would have loved to see him and show our respect. So, if you saw TV news with empty streets, this is why, it is not that we did not want to go!

But there was a big party with a video screen nearby, and we had cheerleaders and Rock'n'Roll and Jazz and Country and Linedance and everything else that means America. And somewhere there I got photographed. Forgive me for the little scream in your forum ;)

41. Thank you!
Not sure how this kind of forum works - do I have to reply to everybody in an extra message, or can I also do one for all?

So, I just want to say thank you for the nice welcome, and Flying Dream Blues - you can have a doll on your own! Just google "Obama actionfigure" and a lot of links will turn up.

And yes, it was a wonderful and special day. Sorry the weather was so cold (must have been a shock for him, coming from Cairo), but at least it did not rain and later even the sun came out. It is the only thing we could not control, but everything else was planned and prepared very well.

I also met people from all over the world, and talked with two nice Americans that work for our Technician University. And I showed up in some TV news as well. Guess that were my 15 minutes of fame yesterday ;)

"Church of our Lady" or "Frauenkirche", as the German name is. For a while it did not look as if Obama had time for visiting it, but I am glad he did. Because it is a symbol for peace. People all over the world donated for its rebuilding.
