Every time a President shows toughness towards Israel, Congress and the Senate goes crazy
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 01:29 PM by Lithos
As President Barack Obama prepares to depart for his first trip

to the Arab world, the administration’s escalating pressure on Israel to freeze all growth of its settlements on Palestinian land has begun to stir concern among Israel’s numerous allies in both parties on Capitol Hill.

“My concern is that we are applying pressure to the wrong party in this dispute,” said Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.). “I think it would serve America’s interest better if we were pressuring the Iranians to eliminate the potential of a nuclear threat from Iran, and less time pressuring our allies and the only democracy in the Middle East to stop the natural growth of their settlements.”

“When Congress gets back into session the administration is going to hear from many more members than just me,” she said.

"Obama administration accused by GOP of favoring unions over investors in GM bankruptcy talks"

After all, it's not as if President Obama was ever a DLC corporate whore, right? I am glad I was never so stupid as to ever support the DLC candidate in any election. In four months, President Obama has done more to move progressive domestic causes forward than any modern president in the same time period because he's not saddled with that bankrupt philosophy which is just a watered-down version of the GOP "free market". Israel is not the only reason Capitol Hill is going crazy; the banks and the Chamber of Commerce and their DLC conservaDem minions in Congress hate his sweeping regulatory push.

3. Exactly. Israel can't just expect to demand things from everyone else. I agree with obama
on their Settlement activities. Can u imagine if Israel gave up their nukes? Maybe Iran wouldn't want them, or they would at the least be in a better position to demand another country not try to obtain nukes.

9. I swear this has gotta be a dream....
... the President of the United States looks Netanyahu in the face tells him he needs to work towards Palestinian statehood.

Like I've said before, I'm gonna be very upset when I wake up and see President Jeb Bush on the TV.

12. Exactly. It's CRIMINAL the amount of land Israel has STOLEN from the Palestinians.
-edit-

Wexler, an early Obama ally and a staunch defender of his Middle East policy, said in his view, the settlement freeze should apply only to settlements outside Israel’s security fence, or wall, and should exclude territory that appears likely to ultimately remain part of Israel.
