2. But but but.... uh... oh yeah, he was an actor, so that's OK!!1!1!!!!1
Even though actors and other celebrities should shut up and not be involved in politics. Unless they're Ronald Reagan. Or Arnold Gropenfuhrer. Or Chuck Norris. Or Dennis Miller. Or Ted Nugent. Or Charlie Daniels. Or.... ah never mind....

3. Yeah, Fox was "upset" over the Obamas spending TAXPAYER MONEY
to "vacation" in NYC. It was about 1pm this afternoon. I think it was Brian Wilson. All I could think of was WHAAAAAAAAATT? - and Brushcutter-Bush never took vacations? What the phuck!
Phuckin Fox.

5. Great find. Yeah, it's not like Bush spent more time in Texas than at work in D.C. or anything..
Geez. I love how utterly bereft of common sense those RNC folks are. Do they REALLY want us to tally the costs of having George in Crawford all time? Or how much it cost to fly his sorry ass over there, along with the staff? The RNC is only preaching to the nutcases... everyone else thinks it's wonderful to see a happy couple out on the town.

19. Never mind Bush in Texas...
Edited on Sun May-31-09 01:01 AM by TTUBatfan2008
How about Reagan's frequent trips to California? Reagan's ranch is around 2800 miles from D.C. whereas Crawford is around 1450 miles from D.C. Reagan spent more time on vacation than any other POTUS in history other than GWB. His vacations would cost us nearly twice as much in jet fuel as GWB's. And yet they WORSHIP this man, despite the fact that he was going on these ultra expensive vacations during a recession that Rush Limbaugh has claimed was worse than what's going on right now.

I'm sure the Reagans went to the ballet in NYC, too ... their awesome son danced there.

12. Yes. Ron supposedly dropped out of Yale to dance with the Joffrey Ballet.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 10:31 PM by gauguin57
President Ronnie apparently wasn't too thrilled with that ... but it's also rumored that, when Ron Jr. said he wanted to dance, Ronnie called his old friend Gene Kelly to ask him to recommend good dance schools.

Sounds like Ron and Nancy didn't go see him dance too often, though.

Do you remember Ron Jr. dancing in his underwear on Sat. Nite Live back in the '80s? It was a "risky business" skit ... one of the funniest skits I have ever seen on SNL EVER!

16. One of the more inappropriate Broadway visits in recent history, lest the GOP forget:
Okay, she's not the President, but it was two days after Katrina hit, and the levees had already failed.

http://www.broadway.com/Condoleezza-Rice-Kicks-Up-Her-Heels-at-Spamalot/broadway_photos/517286

"With terrorist threats pouring into Washington and war still raging in Iraq, it is hard to find downtime if you are the Secretary of State. But on a recent trip to New York, Dr. Condoleezza Rice did just that, playing tennis with Monica Seles and, on August 31, checking out Broadway smash hit Spamalot. We caught her coming out of the Shubert Theatre after enjoying the comic merriment inside."

Reagan went to a Broadway show a full 2.5 months earlier than Obama did? Reagan wasn't even 2 months into his Presidency when he did this, and Rush Limbaugh keeps claiming that Reagan inherited a tougher economic situation than Obama did. So where is the poutrage from the wingnuts over Mr. Reagan's behavior in 1981? And more importantly, where is their outrage over the fact that Reagan went on more vacations than any POTUS in history outside of George W. Bush, and that these vacations were all the way out in fucking California? Talk about a huge waste of jet fuel!

27. Don't' forget the boost to Broadway
That show and many others will rake in so much more ticket revenue (and therefore pay more in taxes) that the trade off is VERY hard to calculate.

Same arguments are made from the anti-Royals in UK, but the tourism pounds HANDSOMELY offset what it costs to keep them and a few palaces.

I could not begrudge Obama a few hours 'off' (hint: He's never 'off', he could have been interrupted during that show with something just as weighty as 9/11 and I bet he'd have handled it better).

What I wish, however, is that he'd acknowledge all the (gay) creative staff whose equality rights are being bashed by the anti-marriage crowd.

Separate IS NOT EQUAL.
