My apologies for appearing to be snippy defending Obama's torture law strategies
Edited on Mon Apr-20-09 09:26 PM by zulchzulu
I am frustrated about the torture strategies in terms of how complicated it is to illustrate. I've done a couple threads trying to show what I believe are the complexities on this issue:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8356724&mesg_id=8356724

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8358338&mesg_id=8358338

That said, I feel in hindsight that I have been a tad snippy to my fellow DU brothers and sisters. For that, I apologize.

I am for Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, Rumsfeld and others in the Bush administration to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for their calculated efforts to torture. I would like them all to hang from a tree for treason for their participation with the Project For The New American Century's tactics, including their participation in the events on September 11, 2001.

That said, I know that only history will finally have the final word on these issues. There is hope that the Justice Department and the House Judiciary Committee (which is the last line in constitutional amendments) will investigate and the law of the Land will prevail.

It's complicated... this legal/political shadow dancing... my best wishes go out to those who want Obama to strike down on Bush today. We all actually believe that the final level of justice will prevail...hopefully.

1. Doesn't snippy require being snippy in return?
I dont think your snip was unwarranted.

But then again, I didn't notice you being snippy ..... so ignore me. :)

The President does't have "torture strategies" lol ..... I know that's not what you meant, but that sounds funny.

2. Alot of people here have been really grumpy lately.

Myself included. People are understandably on edge with all that is going on. The thing is, President Obama didn't commit these crimes, detain innocent people, start unnecessary wars, or screw up the economy, but he was left with this huge, nasty mess to clean up, and everyone is jumping on him because he's not doing it the way they want him to. I'm going to do my part-write to let him and my representatives know where I stand on this torture issue, call, write some more and protest if necessary, but in the meantime, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I believe he will do the right thing.

6. And justice will be rendered.....
just not tomorrow, and not ending with Obama holding a stick with Cheney's head on it.
It will be much more civilized than that. Stay tuned.

9. I was thrilled when Obama called it ILLEGAL before the CIA today.
He has given them the ammunition. He's called it illegal. It is now up to Congress and/or the Dept of Justice to move it forward.

Emanuel and Gibbs have provided Obama political cover. While some people are wringing this hands convinced Obama is letting it slide, I'm jumping for joy today knowing he's provided everything needed to prosecute.

I am hopeful. Don't let the usual suspects convince you the fat lady has sung, because she has not. America is still digesting these memos. This is a work in progress. Rumor has it Holder is seriously considering appointing a Special Prosecutor.

I am convinced that the constitutional scholar we elected has a conscience. I believe in the rule of law and that karma mandates a righteous reckoning here.

Cheers.

11. a good news update!
I just knew Emanuel was barking on Sunday!

On Sunday, Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, said on the ABC News program “This Week” that “those who devised policy” also “should not be prosecuted.” But administration officials said Monday that Mr. Emanuel had meant the officials who ordered the policies carried out, not the lawyers who provided the legal rationale.
